Opaque dark brown beer, little pale tan head. Super smooth palate, silky and semi dry. Very mild carbonation. Smooth dark malt with touches of dark chocolate and subtle wood. Lovely mellow whisky. Touch of dark fruits. Light dry finish. Superbly mellow, this beer doesn’t so much hide the abv as conceal it all together! Dangerously drinkable!

Bottle at home in London - picked up from the brewery quite a while back. Bottled on 16.11.12. Pours oily black with a somewhat flimsy, bubbly brown-beige head that slowly fluffs up a bit into a flimy cream.Koelschtrinker (22064) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - SEP 29, 2013
Lovely aroma, loaded with diverse chocolate aspects, plenty of gooey milk chocolate, also some hard baking cocoa, nips of burnt wood, vanilla, dirt. Medium to big sweet flavor without being remotely cloying, with lots more chocolate character, dried fruits, grape, earth, hot cocoa, vanilla pods, very slight charred wood, ash, oily chocolate, low but adequate scorched earth bitterness.
Full bodied yet soft, with fine carbonation and oily texture. Lightly warming on the finish with more dynamic chocolate presence, charred wood, red berries, slight tannic dryness, rounded vanilla, bittersweet cocoa, softened roasted malts. Tremendously well integrated and nuanced. Nicely balanced and not at all boozy. Exceptionally drinkable. World-class.
Recht süßer, schwer malziger Antrunk. Klebrig, unsüffig, im Verlauf harmonisch werdend, vorher ist die Süße zu stark. Schokoladig, schwer. 11/10/7/10//10 Theydon_Bois (21423) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - AUG 23, 2013
Bottle at home, from the brewery, 04/08/13. Mid black with a very thin tan head, despite a vigourous pour, which clears to the edge leaving a swirl atop the glass. The nose is a little thinner than I’d expected for this beer, light roast, sugars, chocolate, vanilla, oaky, whisky notes, pleasant none the less. Taste comprises brown sugars, chocolate, light booze, molasses, well integrated whisky, dark toffee, vaniila notes. Medium bodied with bite, soft carbonation with a subtle Glen Spey gurgle in the finale. Solid BA impy but not one for the highest draw for me, lacks a little depth but to its credit hides the alcohol very well!
