330ml bottle from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow:wheresthepath (2395) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - OCT 15, 2015
Another excellent Kernel beer, my first dark beer from them in a while & every bit as good as their IPA’s & pale ales. An excellent beer with plenty of dark chocolate flavours & a nice, strong kick from the alcohol alongside nice coffee flavours & sweetness. Highly drinkable for the strength of the beer as well & exactly what I was expecting from this one.
Bottle from London Beer Lab. Despite its name this is pretty close to being black. There?s a thick tan head and a wonderful velvetty smooth mouthfeel. Chocolate up front with a roasted malt bitterness following through. You wouldn?t know it was 10%+, the alcohol is totally hidden and it slips down dangerously easily. A beaut of a stoot. Black colour with a grey head. Aroma of molasses, liquorice, chocolate and sour vinous notes. Taste of dark chocolate, molasses and vinous characters with dark berries. Some complexity. Some whiskey. Dry aftertaste. andrepintado (3661) - Porto, PORTUGAL - OCT 4, 2015

33cl bottle from 3er tiempo online. Color is dark. Head is thin and brown. Medium sweetness, medium bitterness. Body is smooth. Aroma is chocolate, roasted, coffee, vanilla, brandy, nutty, light fruit, a little citric. Very good! Cimbasso (1006) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 4, 2015
Sampled from a 33cl bottle at 9.9% ABV brewed on 26/02/15 best before 26/02/20. Thick black colour with hardly any head or carbonation, hence a low mark for appearance. Rich taste of coffee and dark chocolate with notes of vanilla, as if from ageing in a Bourbon barrel. Lots of Demerara sugar taste. Good alcoholic kick and some smokiness in the finish. Really rich and oily mouthfeel with good bitterness. A great beer, but needs more, or at least some, carbonation.

Poured into taster showing black center and thick translucent coffee brown rims with half a finger of quick dissipating coffee foam.
The nose shows intense notes of rich chocolate, roasted malts.
The palate is thick and well carbonated. Intensely dark roasted chocolate malts and cocoa flavors on the palate throughout. A nice smoky note in the background and a bourbon barrel aged-like/intense espresso bitterness on the finish. Smoke and coffee notes appear on the linger afterwards. Big and rich - this is a slow sipper. Rubin77 (2581) - Brussels / Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - SEP 22, 2015
