Bottle 330ml. Full marks. Aromas of coffee, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and hints of liquorice. Taste is sweet and bitter, with never-ending taste. Palate is syrupy, and full bodied. Black, with a frothy off-white head. medallaisla (91) - PUERTO RICO - AUG 11, 2012
Bottle shared with the husband.
Very dark brown in color, the head fades away fairly quickly.
Very boozy aroma, milk and dark chocolate, espresso beans.
Taste: Wow. Sweet, sweet sticky malts that manage not to be cloying, tart cherries, and then a surprising punch of hops. oliodnb (662) - ITALY - MAY 16, 2014
UPDATED: SEP 14, 2017 Deep black, foamy brown head. Smells of roasted malts, coffee, alcohol. Very strong, rich taste of coffee and chocolate with roasted malts and some liquor note. Very thick, creamy mouthfeel. Sweetness and bitterness perfectly balanced. Amazing beer.
Update, October 2015: best stout ever. September 2017: still the best stout ever. HenrikO (35) - Karlstad, SWEDEN - JAN 13, 2013
Backlog rate. One of my 10 favorite beers ever. What can I say? Burnt, hoppy, coffee, tar, fudge, creme caramel, incredible layered sweet/bitter flavours. tejex (3) - Seville, SPAIN - MAY 11, 2014 does not count

Dark oil black. Thick coffee flavor with a hint of licorice. Malty sweetness accentuates the coffee. A slimy mouthfeel and a heavy addition to a meal. caesar (7165) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - JAN 10, 2013
UPDATED: AUG 8, 2013 Real rate: bottled, large sample. Dark color, short brown head. Aroma of milk chocolat, coffee, roasted malts, slight licorice, dark fruit. Wonderfully complex. Medium bitter in taste, some sweetness, roast, caramel, chocolat. Perfect balance. Full, creamy body. Stunning beer.
Just because I love it so much, a rating. Smooth, roasty and sweet, but with the perfect balance. Im really impressed by all the Kernel has made, as they do so close to perfection. Brewery of the year 2012 for me! AngloJaxon88 (9) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JUN 29, 2016 does not count
Just an outstanding example. Rich, thick, oily, full bodied mouthfeel. ABV well hidden, but the hum of alcohol is really well balanced with the flavour of the malts. tastes of chocolate, sherry, rich dried fruits. Not too roasty. which is working well with this beer (I do like them roasty too though). Even the Mrs likes it, and she drinks wine! RichardW (1813) - Carlisle, Cumbria, ENGLAND - MAY 9, 2014
Bottle Rehills Newcastle. Wow, this is amazing. Aromas of brown sugar, caramel, coffee and cocoa. Thick mouth feel but it doesn’t cloy and is impressively soft, with background coppery notes. The finish even has some raspberry hints for me, a great aniseed cough mixture flavour then comes in on top. Outstanding.
