4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: DEC 3, 2014 Bottle; from Brwery, thanks Evin!
Opaque black colour, mocha lacing diminishes, aroma is smoke, chocolate, light peat, fudge, some citrus hops.
Taste is superb. Stunning dark Belgian chocolate, like real premium stuff, smoke, some leather, some peat, fudge, toffee, roasted malts, a littel rough on the bitternes, oil ,vanilla, raisins, brown sugar, depth and complexity is stunning, really long drinking and warms up very very nicely. Ken is right, lay this for a year and it woulld be intrigueing. I may do the same. Great work, Evin! Drinkability is there and alcohol is well hidden. Great stuff.
Bottle - bottled on 7th October 2013 - re-rate.
Deep guey chocolate gateaux; motor oil; tar; leather; velvet; stupidly drinkable for the abv; nice roasted malts; slight charcoal; cigar ash and wooden notes. Some blackcurrant and oil and cream. A very rich and rewarding imperial stout and in my eyes probably the best in the country of course along with GKHR SR. Aged this is even better! 4.5

My bottle listed at: 9,9% abv

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin, half a centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of rich nuts, earth, toffee, caramelised sugars, grain, peat and a good deal of coffee, as well. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rich malty flavour at first with bunches of earth and nuts throughout showing some pleasant and pungent sugars with the caramel, toffee and chocolate with a hint of a bitter finish from the peat, grain and noticeable alcohol. Aftertaste shows quite a bit of complexity, ranging from the hazlenuts to the peat and finishing with some bitter hop elements and a dash of coffee and earth, nice and pungent and warming but not boozey, which perhaps was due to the age (i've never had a fresh bottle before), the time seems to have done some nice things in terms of smoothness. Overall, a nice and robust beer all at once with a good deal of flavours and complexities, but still relatively easy-to-drink, especially for the style, but again, this probably has something to do with a 4+ year old bottle. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Beers & Beers in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain on 14-April-2014 for €5,75 sampled at home in Washington on 23-September-2017 after running 15 miles as a training run for the USMC Marathon. scanovajr (753) - Rio de Janeiro, BRAZIL - SEP 7, 2017

Bottle from Biernavigatie. Aroma is roasted malt, dark cocoa, milk chocolate, mocha, coffee, dark fruits, a touch of hops, caramel, espresso, with light liquorice in the finish. Flavour is sweet with a medium hoppy roast bitter finish. Body is full and a bit creamy. Pretty amazing, lots of chocolate and coffee, fruity and hoppy notes as well. So damn tasty, it all comes together. rafael52 (1536) - Łódź, POLAND - SEP 1, 2017

Bottle at home from Mother Kelly’s. Poured very nicely with a lovely opaque black colour and a long lasting dark tan head. It certainly smelt the part with roasted and toasted malts and quite a whiff of alcohol, which should have put me on warning. The flavour was the same, lovely malts, but completely dominated by the alcohol. The mouthfeel was oily and quite unctuous and a strong alcohol burn. I had been looking for this one for a while, but the alcohol was way too much for me and pretty much killed my enjoyment of the beer. 90 (615) - BELGIUM - JUL 31, 2017
Booze and chocolate in aroma. Coffee, bitter chocolate in taste. Dry mouthfeel, nice carbo. Chocolate mousse. Nice aftertaste. Dry. LazyPyro (1399) - Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - JUL 19, 2017
330ml bottle, 9.5%, bottled October 2016. Pours black with a thin bubbly tan head. Aroma: rich dark/dried fruits, dark chocolate, roast malt, coffee. Taste: like the aroma rich with dried fruits and roasted malts, liquorice, chocolate, warming alcohol, quite sweet, long warm finish. Full bodied, minimal carbonation. Decent stout but very rich, wouldn’t want more than one.
