UPDATED: JUL 25, 2013 Bottle, shared with Beer Geek Tasting Crew @ "Best Before Last Summer Tasting 2013". Dark brown body, small white head. Nose is licorice, burnt sugar, herbal notes and hints of resin. Taste is licorice, burnt sugar, resin, oxidized dark fruits and some lingering bitter notes in the finish. Hints of dark chocolate. Medium body, soft carbonation. Ok, but sadly another case of overaging. Our bad. Beersiveknown (5309) - NORTHERN IRELAND - MAR 13, 2012
Bottle at home thanks to DanTheMan278!
Those NZ hops really make themselves known on the nose. There’s gooseberry and watermelon plus a touch of citra mango. Plenty of bitterness too...mouth drying but too moreish to stop for water. Lots of citrus -satsumas maybe? plus more of the aforementioned fruit. A slight touch of dark malt asserts itself as toast but this beer is all about the hops. Gentle carbonation and medium mouthfeel. DanielBrown (4563) - Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, ENGLAND - JAN 31, 2012
UPDATED: FEB 3, 2012 Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Pours dark brown, with a prim cream head. The smell is just fantastic: mesmirising actually. Flavour is really good: juicy, limey, tropical hops, becoming slowly smooth, muddy malt. Long, interesting finish, which remains hoppy, but also smooth and choc-ish. Obviously delicious. This has ended up with a whopping score, because I can’t really see where it can be marked down. Aniela (4215) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JAN 15, 2012
From a bottle in London. Brown, hazy with a offwhite head. Fruity and hoppy aroma. Hoppy and malty taste. A nice beer. tommann (4026) - Dudley, West Midlands, ENGLAND - JAN 24, 2012
330ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a medium head. Aroma is juicy, guava, mango and papaya. Some coffee too. Taste has some watery coffee to start. Bitter mango. Faint bitter coffee on the aftertaste.

From bottle. As good as black with a small tan head. Aroma of tropical fruit hops and some coffee. Similar taste, absolutely delicious. Nice bitter finish. One if his better ones CraftBeerNick (2975) - London Town, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 12, 2012
Bottle at home, 12th January 2012. Great hoppy aroma, pine and grapefruit, pours nicely, neat head and good lacing. Taste is punchy and perfect, lots of lingering grapefruit pithe, and piney hops, coffee and bitter chocolate is evident. I was a big fan of the original Black IPA from Kernel, Black 2 was good but lacked the wow factor, Black 3 has this and is back up with the Original EdKing (2667) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 13, 2012
Not the biggest fan of black IPAs but this is nice. Pours dark brown, off white head. Nose is lots of tropical fruit and citrous. Lots of pineapple juice, then passion fruit, mango, papaya, guava. Citrous and lime and bit of grapefruit bitter. Taste is tropical fruit sweet. If I were blindfolded I wouldn’t necessarily know this was a black rather than West Coast IPA. Doesn’t have that black sugary cloyingness. Fair amount of grapefruit, pine and dash of eucalyptus on finish. wyzzywyz22 (2108) - Wirral, Merseyside, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2012
Bottle from Beer Ritz, Leeds. Shared with Slothez. Deep dark brown pour with a small tan head. Tropical fruit and juicy hops ahoy in the nose. Some cracking hoppage and citrus on offer in the flavour too, balanced out by some roast, dark choc and a wee lick of booze. Delicious and superbly drinkable stuff. The Kernel marches on.... dantheman278 (1365) - SCOTLAND - FEB 18, 2012
Bottle at home. Brown/black, small tan head. Juicy IPA nose, plenty of citrus and guava with an underlying roasty note. Surprisingly dry yet juicy, full-on citrus with coffee grounds and a slightly roasty bitter finish. Interesting, a bit more roasty than I was expecting but still very good.
