500ml bottle, dregs and all. Misted yellow-gold with a loose-bubbled, patchy end-of-festival head barely covering the beer. Fine, bristling, tropical aroma with suggestions of pineapple, passion fruit, Sauvignon Blanc, celery and blackcurrant. A beer that smells that good cannot fail to taste good and doesn’t; deeply stewed, husky flavour rasping with breakfast juice bitterness and peanut-like malt. Complex and balanced for a single hop with melon, grapefruit, pineapple and strawberry chew notes. Lingers dryly and soapily. Stella is a top 5 hop of mine right now.

Keg at the Hanging Bat. Smells like doing the washing, soapy. Tastes fruity and bitter.

Bottle shared with MesandSim, cheers mate! Pours a golden colour with a medium off white head. Pine, grapefruit, gimp mask, woody, caramel, pineapple, more juicy hops. Kernel are just brilliant. This isn’t their greatest work and it’s still gorgeous.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2015 Color: nice clear amber beer with small carbonation and small white foam. Smell: hoppy nose with herbal and fruity nose as mango, peach, citrus and lemon. Taste: hoppy explosion with lemon and lemongrass presence. Aftertaste: nice wet bitterness with citrus and lemon taste.

High expectations. Right, peppery, piney nose with hints of burnt candy and lime. Pours golden with a steady head and persistant lace. Flavour is brilliant - big, peppery undertones lifted by mango, papaya and lemonade notes with a strong, dry, harmonious finish. Balanced, tasty and exceptionally good. What are they doing at The Kernel? How are they getting it so right? Other craft brewers - get yourself down to these guys and ask some questions to get the playing field a bit levelled. Right now, no-one can touch The Kernel.

6.7%. Very bitter - that’s that initial thing. It’s a murky orange brown. Big whiff of hops, sugar, fruit. Taste not as complex and satisfying as other kernels. Long bitter aftertaste. OK

Keg at The Union Tavern, London on 24 June. Was informed by the barman there that Kernel had reluctantly changed the name of the beer as they InBev had told them they weren’t allowed to call it ’Stella’ anymore. Not sure if that’s true... Cloudy, unfiltered pale pour with a large head. Not a super strong aroma, but nice hop and spice notes. Makes up for it with lots of spicy hop flavours and well balanced on the palate.

Draught. Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Dark yellow colour. Moderate malty and heavy hoppy aroma. Heavy bitter wonderfull flavor. Long heavy bitter finish. Creamy palate. Very nice.

Golden Amber beer, strong pineapple aroma with some pine. Flavor is a big hit of resinous hops with some apricot notes. Long finish, very nice

2013 Bottle, Cheers to Rilester, split at the pre stag tasting in the ’Sham, 20/06/13. Bottle states 6.7% ABV. Hazed golden amber with a thin off white head. Nose is huicy hops, light fart, bitter orange. Taste comprises hops, grass, orange pith, a good mineral bite, melon, touch grapefruit. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, hop bitterness in the finish. Another solid IPA from Kernel.

Bottled on 21/05/13. Slightly murky brown orange colour with a thin white head. Big hoppy, tropical fruit aroma alongside some nice earthiness. A lot of grapefruit/tonicy bitterness. It’s good and way above average but not hugely complex, a little bit one note. Still, it’s a lot better than most.
