Bottle from the brewery drunk at home. Labelled PALE ALE Red Burgundy Barrel Age) 5.3%. Almost clear with a touch of haze, very golden amber, thin white foam head. Nose is like a glass of white wine. Buttery Chablis like aroma, vanilla, lemon, very vinous, some grain as it warms up, some red grape too. Taste is light, bit watery, red wine bitter, red wine vinous, but with light white wine vinous touches, acidic Chardonnay grape notes. The beer flavour is a bit strangled by the red wine notes, and the carbonation of the beer works against the wine. It tastes like white wine mixed with a dash of red wine and soda water. As it warms up some grapefruit bitterness is coming through on the finish. Quite tangy. Interesting but not a triumph of flavours. Bit dissonant. Great aroma though.
Keg at the vintage. Soft toffee and fruity wine on nose. Initially lots of toffee/vanilla, moves to tart fruity wine as it warms.

Backlog rating. Keg at the brewery tap room. It pours a hazy light golden color with a minimal white head. Aroma is lightly funky and gently sour. Light ripe fruit notes and mild grassy hops. Taste is mildly hoppy and medium acidic, with notes of grape skin, ripe apricots, light funk, port wood, orange peel. Finishes clean dry and acidic. London Bimble 26/4/2014. Keg at the kernel brewery. Aroma is grape skin, oak, melon. Crystal clear golden coloured pour with a lasting light frothy white head. Flavour is lightly tart, grapeskin, light tanin, grainy, oak. Palate is grainy, tanin on the tongue. Drying with a very dry finish. Nice complex beer. Bottle from the brewery. Hazy gold. Bubbly, sticky, bright white head. Wine. That vanilla note that comes from a barrel. Sweet grain. Some light herb. Taste has a tannin like dryness. Light bitterness. A hint of the vanilla pops up in there, also. Palate has a geuze like tartness. Fairly light, though, with carbonation to match. Finish is long dry, and light tart. Quite unusual. Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow color with a white head. Has a fruity malty woody hoppy aroma. Fruity malty woody weak hoppy citrus flavor. Has a fruity malty woody citrus hoppy finish.

Bottle picked up during the London Bimble and drunk at home. One of those beers that you pour, forget what you are doing and have a slug and go "oh, that’s a bit different." Pale gold haze, lasting white head. Red wine vanilla and wood aroma. Not getting much pale ale in the aroma. Although not overly barrel aged, I still don’t get much pale ale, but a lot of red wine vanilla and wood in the aroma. Not a bad beer in the least, just that I feel that the beer is a base for all the other flavours. Which may be the intention, I don’t know. Yes the raspberry and wild strawberry vanilla cream flavours are delicious. But I’ve never been a big fan of wood. I have mixed feelings. Elements I like, elements I don’t like. Hmmmmm. Bottle from brewery - Pale Ale Red Burgundy Barrel-aged. 5,3 % abv. Bottled 06/02/13. Pours gold with a white head. Aroma is slightly sour with jammy dark fruit, a hint of wood. Light body, medium carbonation. Winey to a point, there’s lots of red berries there, but also hints of rhubarb, a little pine, lemony sourness. Lovely balance, very drinkable. It really works. Bottle @ The Kernel (Greater London). Labeled Pale Ale Red Burgundy Barrel-aged. 5,3 % abv. Clear yellow/golden with a huge creamy white head and heavy lacing. Aroma is enticing with strong, but not overpowering, winey notes, fruits, oak, yeast and white grapes. It becomes more and more complex when given some time to open. Taste is of red wine, light sweetness, yeast, oak, decent malt backbone and come fruitiness. Light/medium body. Lively carbonation. Winey mouthfeel. Slightly dry finish. I was skeptical at first, but after 15 minutes or so I was enticed by the delightful winey aroma and the complexity of the beer. Another superb beer from The Kernel.
