Another Kernel that I nearly missed. Thanks so much to Toby for admitting me to the brewery on a schoolday - Cheers Mate! So this is 70% Pale Ale South and 30% Pale Ale CSCS - give or take. Light haze on this gold beer, little white head. Palate starts crispy but turns softer. Nice floral tangerine with a touch of orange marmalade underneath. Mild minerals. A little fresh orange - tangerine and a trace of pith. Finishes semi soft and minerally. Nice beer - the citrus of the CSCS gives the South a nice kick.
Keg at the brewery, London. What a treat to get the special South. It pours cloudy orange with a faint, white head. Nose is rife withdry, pithy citrus, grapefruit, dry pine needles. Medium sweet flavor with some pale wood, orange, dry grass. Light to medium in body with fine, smooth carbonation. mild dryness to finish, with loads of fresh citrus, dry grass, light dry yeast and some woody pine. Excellent. Keg at Kernel. I was told this is a one-off keg of Pale Ale South blended with something else (!?). It pours clear amber, with a medium white head. The nose is farmyard, manure, citrus pith, grapefruit and orange. The nose is citrus pith, zesty, grapefruit, orange, lemon, very dry, resin and tanginess, with a dry, citric finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Smooth and easy drinking. A solid APA.
