pivnizub (10768) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - NOV 16, 2012
Bottle(@ The Bottle Shop, Kenterbury): Literally black with a smaller, but stable, tanned head, leathery to dark-fruity nose with distinctive chocolatey traces and a discreet sourness; solid sweet-bitter flavour, full bodied; lingering solid sweet-bitter finish, presenting leather, dried fruits and cacao. Really good, as expected…

erickok (6037) - Leuven, BELGIUM - NOV 14, 2012
Beautiful dark brown bodied with a foamy big tan head. Lacing in the glass is stunning. Rich mix is dark roasted and toffee malts with forest and spruce hops. Some dark pecan and sticky fruit shining through. Smooth, not very thick palate with small carbonation. Very rich in flavour, worth the 9% abv. Dark chocolate, cookie dough and a solid amount of bitterness. Warming aftertaste. Very well made and although not off beaten tracks it is characterful and tasty. A stunner, without pretence. (33cl bottle, trade with Leighton, thanks!)

Scopey (15522) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 2, 2012
Bottle as my 100th Kernel rating! It pours jet black, with a decent tan head. The nose is varnish, chocolate, cherry, prune, coffee and roasted malt. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, coffee, meat, liquorice, bitter chocolate, earth, alcohol warmth, wood and burnt malt, with long dry finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Not quite as complex as it’s bigger brother. A very drinkable and flavoursome brew.

suprchunk (2994) - Crestview, Florida, USA - DEC 2, 2011
Black pour. Small tan head. Doesn’t last and leaves no lacing. Smells of coffee and and a distinct sourness. Malty, roasty, and the sourness comes through in the mouth as well. Bitter aftertaste, smooth middle. Not bad, but the sourness is really out of place in this one.

anders37 (26878) - Malmö, SWEDEN - NOV 26, 2011
Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a fruity malty chocolate aroma. Roasted malty chocolate flavor with weak hints of licorice. Has a roasted malty chocolate finish.

Leighton (22084) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 10, 2011
Bottle at home in London. Pours rich brown with a fluffy, beige head. Huge, rich chocolate aroma, some dark cherries, perhaps some roasty booze. Beautiful flavor, medium sweet, some dry and roasty mocha, wood, peat, booze. scorched earth. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish, peaty roast, dry coffee, dark chocolate, some grass and dirt. Lingering peat, dark sugar and cocoa. Very excellent beer.

33cl, at 9%Vol, as The Kernel Small Imperial Stout, new exclusive English brew Anno 2010, from The Bottle Shop Canterbury, complex Stout, roasted/bitter and slightly spicy/malty, heavy, yet balanced, cloudy, good head, good brew, yet expensive!

blankboy (7792) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 19, 2011
Bottle [330ml] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- c/o HogTownHarry. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a small semi-lasting frothy beige head -- almost oily looking. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, a touch of alcohol and some bitter chocolate. Very nice flavour of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and some alcohol. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Fantastic stuff!

garthicus (2942) - Dublin, IRELAND - SEP 5, 2011
Thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: pitch black, oil like. Almost zero head. Aroma: Deep chocolate, winter berries, leather, a hint of coffee and alcohol. Flavour: Dark rich chocolate, truffles, a nice mocha-ness to it with wood, leather and oak. Very very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
