12/2011; black; vanilla and roasted malt aroma; fantastic, smooth roasted malt flavor with notes of chocolate, vanilla, and oak, and maybe just hints of bourbon rds (230) - USA - MAR 5, 2009
A very dark near black body with a modest brown head. Mocha, coffee and chocolate notes do not fully quell the vanilla notes or aroma. A very fine stout.

UPDATED: APR 26, 2010 Pretty good. Not much bourbon and a hint of vanilla. Seemed more of nice flavorful session stout. Not much wood or barrel and nice and drinkable.
Re-rate: So much more vanilla and smooth bourbon. Very sweet and sticky with a lot of sugar and a hint of roasted malts. Creamy and lots of vanilla. Yum. 3.5 to 4 Leighton (21085) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 10, 2010
Tap at Governors Island BrewFest. Black-brown, oily pour with shiney highlights and a strong, beige head. Heavy roasted malt aroma, with notes of chocolate, coffee, light smoke, bourbon and subtle vanilla. Flavor is rich, very sweet, with lots of chocolate, less coffee, good dry roast, and hints of vanilla most acute towards the end. Full bodied with average carbonation and a smooth texture. Lightly warming. Finishes sweet and roasty with modest dryness. Really good. Leafs93 (2293) - Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 24, 2011
Pours black with a brown head. Aroma is vanilla, bourbon, oak and roastyness. Taste is sweet and roasty. Mouthfeel is creamy and very smooth. Alcohol well hidden, just a touch of warming on the finish. This was an excellent beer, something that needs to be bottled so those not able to make it to the brewery can try.

On tap at the Peekskill Brewery. Pours a dark black with a medium sized brown mocha head. Aroma is full of chocolate, coffe, more coffee, smoke, and a good bit of malt. I’m not really getting any bourbon or vanilla on the nose. Flavor is big and roasty, and the vanilla makes an appearance here as well. Finishes nicely with a very long bitter roast finish with more hints of vanilla. Rather solid and I’m glad I finally got to drink some of the brew-pubs own brews. If the others come out this solid I may have to start making the trip down there more often. DiarmaidBHK (4797) - Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 3, 2011
Very nice! pours black with a prominent woody aroma. Very smooth and supple with nice coffee taste. This is a beer to luxuriate over. ben4321 (6413) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JUL 12, 2010

Aroma: It has a nose of chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and some bourbon
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a lighter brown head
Flavor: The taste is on the sweet side for the style, vanilla, a little caramel
Palate: It has a really good drinkability to it, it is smooth and creamy with a good mouthfeel
There are not a lot of ratings on this one thus far, but it was pretty good stuff. I like it when little breweries like this (nothing with more then 10 ratings), make solid beers instead of just producing the same boring pale ale and wheat as every other brewery their size.
Smells outstanding - big shot of vanilla in the beginning, then tempers off into a sweet bourbon smell. The taste fell a little short of the outstanding smell, but it was still good. Creamy, syrupy, strong vanilla presence, and the bite of bourbon on the back end. Thick beer, very little bitterness, leaves a sweet yet warming aftertaste. Really good beer. Pours black with dark brown head. Malty sweet nose, could be bigger on this. Very full on the tongue, sweet malt flavor, dry with plum and raisins. Roastiness appears later as does the vanilla when it warms.
