Pours deep black with a thick off-white head. Roasted malts and a delicious smoke note in aroma and taste. Finish is alcoholic warming, slight smokey.
Bottled. Old note. The aroma has caramel, molasses,liquorice, bit raisin. Dark brown, almost black coloured beer with a thin, beige head. 2 33cl bottles, Shared with friends. Served in Tulip. Pours deep dark borwn, almost black, with tan head. Both aroma and tastes are smoke, yeast, roasted malts and red grape. Substantial sweetness on the palate, balanced by the smoke and the dark malts. Even if smoky, still is so curious how similar to wine this brew is. Medium body, good carbonation. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, smoke, ripe dark fruits, coffee, brown sugar, hint of liquorice. Flavour is medium sweet with a light bitter finish. A little boozy. Body is only medium. Pretty good, however more like a smoked Belgian Quad than an Impie Stout.

American beer brewed in Belgium, there should be more like this... Pitch black robe under a creamy, thick, dense, lacing, light beige head. Attractive aroma of espresso beans but subtly so, fondant and a hint of the chocolate sauce odour I love so much in the best impies but again in a subtle way; further hints of banana, leather, bayleaf, smoked halibut, tar, soy sauce, cigarette tobacco, peated whisky, smoked paprika, salmiac, fresh paint, blue grapes and dried plums. ’Belgian’ yeasty fruity esters in onset, peach, lots of banana especially after warming up, sour berries and red apple, rounded and inviting but not the dense candied sweetness I’d expect from an imperial stout - if I’d have to taste this blind, I would describe this as the opening scene of a Belgian quadrupel. Medium carbo, sourish accent for balance, full and rich malt profile, resinous, nutty, caramelly and lightly chocolatey, smoked accent coming through more clearly in the finish where it is assisted by a subtly coffee-like roasted bitterishness, gentle though, spicy hops peeping through as well as warming, yet gentle, whisky-like alcohol; a cloying resin effect stays for a long time as well. In all: very pleasant and inviting beer, a bit off the beaten track perhaps, but balancing its roasted, smokey and fruity flavours very well. Different from what I expected considering its classification here as an imperial stout, a lot more ’Belgian’ and even abt-like in some respects, but by all means a very good beer with satisfying complexity and a long flavour development. Aroma: light peach.
Appearance: small, frothy, light-brown head with no lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Clear, cola-brown body.
Taste: moderately sweet, over-ripe fruit initial flavor and finish with average duration.
Palate: medium bodied with oily texture and lively carbonation.

Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma has smoke. Full bodied. Flavor is smoke, dark malt, and something suggesting burnt powder. Fairly dry. Different.
