bottle release 2014, 2015

Batch #1 - 6.4%

Map of the Sun is our golden sour beer aged in oak barrels with apricots. This sour beer is fermented with Brettanomyces yeast and soured with Lactobacillus and Pediococcus bacteria. With 42 lbs. of apricots added to each oak barrel, this sour beer is overflowing with notes of juicy apricots and apricot jam. Tart and complex, this beer has a bright acidity that enhances its fruity aromatics.

PotjeBier (3804) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - OCT 27, 2017
Draft @ Churchill's, San Marcos, with Richiesd. Hazy blonde color. White head. Aroma's: sour, (tropical) fruit), light woody. Flavor is rather sour, a bit fruity. Light bodied.

(Sample @ CBC 2016 Green Session, Copenhagen) Hazy deep orange-ish gold with a white head. Notes of extremely tart lemony lactic acidity, moderate to high acetic acid, lemon zest, fresh sour apricots, maybe a touch vinous, murky oak, some musty funk beneath the sour. Light to medium bodied, fairly soft carbonation. Rather too sour for me, the high lactic plus some acetic and the sour fruit became overwhelming. I love apricot beers but need a bit more balance.

On tap at The Rare Barrel, pours an opaque bright golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is loaded with fresh apricots, minor acidity and light oak. Flavour is bright and fresh, with lots of puckering apricots, followed by heaps of oaky dryness and light-medium acidity. Dry and fruity, with an oaky finish. Very good.

A strange aroma threw my rating down a bit. Not sure what it was but a little off. The flavor and finish were both very good.

Rami Rami is drinking a Map of the Sun (Batch 2) by The Rare Barrel at Chmielarnia Marszałkowska

Fajny, owocowy (morele, mirabelki, agrest) i jakby lacto. Ale w smaku najzwyczajniej przegiete - nie do picia. pH 1 :/ na zasadzie ciekawostki

Rami Rami: I jeszcze kapusta kiszona

ta ocenka bardzo umowna, bo mieszanka eksperymentalnosci z niepijalnoscia ;)

Palme (4832) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 3, 2017
On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2016. Looks almost like "Solo light" with a yellow strawish colored cloudy body. On top a small sidesticking white head. Really fine aroma. Sour oranges, kumquat and apricot. Generic citrus fruit. White currants also and mild wood vinegar. Mind wrenching sour almost. Acidic as they come. Nice and oily in the mouth and it’s just about average on the carbonation. Fruity and sharp, yellow lemons and lemon juice. Just a heavy heavy sour one! 14.05.2016

Pours a hazy yellow body with a minimal wispy white head. The nose is tart and bretty with a nice funkiness and oakiness. The flavor is tart and sour, quite puckering, but not overly acidic. Very drying, it sucks the saliva right out of your cheeks. The apricot comes out nicely as just a light accent. Very sharp and bracing, the oak adding to the dryness. Pretty good stuff, not sure I can do up a whole 750 of this with how tart this is, but luckily I’ve got a buddy with me.

Bottle shared by Matthew. Thank you!

Light orange body, mostly clear, small head that rapidly fades to nil. Grandiose apricot aroma that leaps into the olfactory senses. Medium high acetic character. Prominent apricot throughout. Delicious.

Thanks Matthew for sharing the bottle! Poured into a snifter showing moderately filtered caramel orange with no head.

The nose shows light malts and tart apricot.

The palate is medium bodied and moderately carbonated but creamy. Highly tart with flavors of apricot with hints of light vanilla.
