UPDATED: DEC 10, 2011 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown with a small light tan head. Aroma of licorice, wine (sweet grapes), sweet fruits, chocolate, sweet liquor. Flavor of sweet grape and sweet apple up front with chocolate and oak barrel in the finish. Very interesting, the wine barrel really shows itself as the beer warms but you also still have the chocolate and roast from the base porter. Very unique- I’ve never had a beer quite like this. It is what Captain Lawrence Smoke from the Oak Wine is supposed to taste like. A must try for a wine lover! (or barrel aged beer lover). Interestingly, it’s only 5.4%, though it tastes stronger to me.
