A 22 ouncer bottled in October 2009 and served at about 45 degrees. The pour is pine brown with a foamy one inch tan head that slowly diminishes. The aroma is smoked dark chocolate malts and a background of Northwestern hops. Medium mouthfeel with a resin texture. The taste is pleasingly bitter with a strong dose of smooth smoked Expresso. Almost black with a reasonable tan head. Sadly it’s all downhill from there. Roasty and astringent with lots of soy sauce and even more glue. Nasty alcohol, totally over done and far from pleasant.

Not much of a head since it dies to only rim bubbles. Leaves good initial lace but there’s none at the bottom of the glass. Near black where no light shines through.
Chaulky cocoa aroma. Slightly milky.
Darker malt flavor of black patent and perhaps some burnt unmalted barley. Chewy finish with some definitive hop bitterness. Good body that seems thicker with the lower carbonation.

Pours mahogany tinged black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes leaving no lacing. Sweet dusty cocoa aromas. Full with sweet milk chocolate upfront turning slightly smoky in the lasting chocolate syrup finish.

Pours dark black. Very slight head, dark tan that stays for a wee bit. Creamy. Aroma definitely of chocolate. Can grab just a bit of hop aroma. Darker fruit, maybe cherries? Sweet chocolate right off the bat. Some coffee bitterness coming on at the end. Sweetish, almost like a sweet stout. Kind of thin malt for an Imp Stout. On the palate, this is silky smooth. Sadly, I think a bit of flavor may have been sacrificed to achieve this smoothness. Overall, not bad. A bit sugary and lacking that POW that imp stouts pride themselves in. Very drinkable. carbonation slightly prickly, nice roasty character, nose is rather weak, pours dark black, no transparency, head is 2 fingers middle of the glass pour, barely any lacing...
overall a nice stout.
