A totally inappropriate beer to consume on a day that nearly hit 40 degrees. Very well put together ’lite’ IS; dark roast and chocolate, bitter roast late, good length without being overpowering. omega (900) - NEW ZEALAND - APR 25, 2014
Nice tar aspect to this beer. Full rich and pleasant on the palate. Quite soft. Pdubyah (760) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - FEB 14, 2014
everything needs to be tweaked upto 11 for this to be better. There isn’t a lot of anything except a malingering bitterness and a dryness. Plenty of fruitiness to keep you interested but this isn’t a benchmark. Alcohol makes itself a nuisance in this too. Shame, as it should be better. kiwianer (3428) - Otorohanga, NEW ZEALAND - FEB 5, 2014
The head is brown and robust, the body black. It smells darkmalty, maltaromatic, bit roasty, lots of coffee and a bit roasty, chocolate. The taste is darkmalty, maltaromatic, bit alcoholic, nice creamy, bit roasty-bitter, coffee. Coffee and bitter-chocolate in the aftertaste. Very Good! 3fourths (9351) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 9, 2014
Burnt caramel, light peppercorn, spicy black licorice / anise, fig, inky espresso, touch of chemicals, some ethanol fumes, hops give it a green sugar snap pea smell. Medium full body, medium to mild roast / char astringency, some smoke character.
Starchy burnt grains, husky and burnt and sour, dry and pasty and rough. Slightly milky / yeasty and ashy. A bit of a mess, but smells better than it sits in the mouth.

Great little concoction, from the hand pump, with the right aroma of fruits and chocolate liquours, cherry and plums, I suppose. The beer is a lovely ruby black, with not much of a respectable head, but it goes down beautifully, with dark chocolates, a touch of coffee, that oakish bourbon and the roasty flavour. Quite thick, it may not be as resinous as often expected from a RIS, but the high alcohol is quite well hidden. Beatiful choice for a strong beer. I could swear the initial sweetness at the front had hints of fresh green apples and maybe dried apricots, but this faded as it warmed in the glass, giving way to choc and coffee, and oily roasted flavours.More warming brought out plums, raisins and tartness. Smooth, warm alcohol in the finish. Easy drinking. gam (4000) - brisbane, AUSTRALIA - APR 26, 2013

i was really surprised about this beer. It looked and smelt great. I was not as viscous as I would have liked though. Big hop and roast presence, limited lingering sweetness. A really good beer. I think this would be fantastic after some barrel time. joergen (28759) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - OCT 10, 2012
