"The Legend". Brewed using a generous blend of finest pale, crystal and roasted barley malts, along with the majestic Fuggle hop, to create a wonderful, full-bodied flavour with subtle banana, cherry and rich fruit overtones.

A peculier tale:
Theakston’s most famous ale takes its name from the seal of the Peculier Court of Masham, which was granted back in the 12th century. It was the custom at the time for the church to administer the law, but this proved too arduous a task for the then Archbishop, who was based in York. So, with due archiepiscopal aplomb, he set up the independent Peculier Court, headed up by the Peculier of Masham.

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2016 I have a soft spot in the head for Old Peculier. It has such an unusual flavor. not like any other old ale. A little sweet a little burnt a little something else that is hard to describe but it just appeals to me greatly. Serving: Bottle

Dark beer, low carbonation, small stable beige head, aromas mainly caramel ones, however there are some barnyard ones, once is tried it is medium bodied, with a thick texture and good roast cereal flavours, the overall balance is good, but the aftertaste is rather simple, without any specific characteristics to remember.

Elle possède des arômes de molasse, malt et caramel. La bière est plus moins sucré.

Pours translucent brown, with a medium beige head. Not much lacing. Aroma of sweet malts and molasses. Tastes of roasted sweet malts, molasses, caramel. Quite sweet beer, medium body, slick feel, soft carbonation, long finish. Good classic.

Really good full body winter ale. Slightly treekle flavours come through. A must for dark beer drinkers :)

From old tasting notes. Brown color, nearly opaque. Tan head. Strong molasses-like aroma with sweet malty overtones. Sweet malt flavor is subdued yet interesting. Slightly sweet malty finish is brief but tasty. Good malty brew with substantial body.

A bottle from Padstow Tesco. Aroma: bread, leaves, slightly sour. Appearance: clear, the darkest dark brown, minimal tan head. Palate: medium-bodied and creamy, soft carbonation, complex, predominantly sweet finish. Taste: medium sweet, tasty malt flavours. Good beer, though I would like it more if it were less sweet, with a higher ABV.

500ml bottle. Sweet and hoppy start with bitter finish. Raisins, dried fruits, berries, malt.

Pours with little to no head. Color is Coca-Cola. It really looks like coke. Gentle aroma has the Coca-Cola aroma, a very faint roasted malt and burnt notes, aroma of an old cellar. Even palate is Coca-Cola like with lesser carbonation. Taste has burnt notes and some dark malty taste, faint Coca-Cola taste, cold cellar like notes, bitterness from hops leaves the mouth a bit dry. Very refreshing, excellent that it combines the sensation of drinking Coca-Cola and beer. Not too rich, but not watery either. An excellent and interesting beer.

This was my first legal pint I had when I turned 18, but I only came back to it this year. It’s held up really well, even after years of hurting my taste buds with IPAs and imperial stouts. There’s a great malt flavor, with a darker color and a richer, sweeter flavor than a standard bitter. The hop profile is earthy, giving it some spicy notes that work with the malt sweetness. Good stuff.
