3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a lavishly clear and dark reddish brown/brick hue. A creamy light tan head sits atop and clings to the glass as it descends. Aroma is subtly fruity and sweet with a sour alcohol note. Slight metallic aroma (import) like a grip of old coins. Muddy toffee notes open to the nose as the ale warms. An old earthy dustiness rounds out this beer. The flavor is bighty on the palate. Hints of vanilla and caramel dominate the middle. Finishes somewhat bitter, and mildly alcoholic, with lingering pleasant sour pear and grape nuts. Light/medium moutfeel. "Uncle B’s, A little rusty and dusty."
Still a nice ale, but I have a long memory of when I first tried it, from a counter mounted wooden cask, at the Norfolk Arms in Arundel, in 1976.
Then, it was a more powerful brew at 6.3% with a little more body.
First taste, I was hooked! Westchesterco (2274) - mclean, Virginia, USA - DEC 18, 2017

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2017 Rating from a historical source, where I gave it a fairly high 4/5. The little memory of this that I do have is that it was a lovely dark beer. Will have to try it again some day to confirm. Piepenhenrich (1285) - Steinbach, GERMANY - DEC 7, 2017
Pours dark brown with a beige head. Intense roasted malt flavors combine with a pleasant bitterness to provide for an enjoyable drinking experience. Decent brew!

Bottle @ home. Nice deep dark red to amber-brown color, small to average sized beige head. Smell and taste malts, lightly dark malts, raisins, caramel. Decent body and carbonation. Decent beer. gilgameshcup (1) - - DEC 3, 2017 does not count
A complex mixture of fruit and bread. At first reminds of raisins and apples, but the after taste is a very soft bread flavour. Sweet and slightly bitter. For me, it is slightly too sticky. Carbonation gives it a small edge. Hopverdju (1642) - BELGIUM - DEC 1, 2017
