COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
Abv reduced from 5.7 to 5.6 in 2010.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculiers fermentation process.

Bottle purchased 2009. Figure this has been breathing my cellars summer warmth and winter chill enough. Deep brown color, but somehow clean, fizzes like a soda pop. Smell of kilned malts, a but of plum, and somehow alcoholic. Nothing off, which is always the risk. First thing that hits the tongue, though, is a very thin mouthfeel. Not that its a weak beer, but it just seems theres not enough flavor to go around. Still has some fizz to it, so not like its a cask pour. Mine had plenty of dregs or yeast at the bottom, which I swirled in, and it picked up the flavor a bit. But this one just left me feeling that for its reputation, it should be better. Maybe a newer bottle will be considered at a future date.

500ml bottle. Pours a very dark ruby, almost black with a one finger tan head. Nose is malty, dark fruits, prunes, Christmas cake and some banana sweet bread. Medium mouth feel, fairly sweet and malty and plenty of dark dried fruits. Get some sweet banana bread and Christmas cake as with the nose, finished off with some candied dried orange peel bitterness. Really rather good, and this was a beer I always ignored up until now. Buying this again for sure !

Bottle. Dark reddish brown. Almost black with ruby shades. Small head. Aroma is malty, fruity and vinous wirh a hint of chocolate. Taste is fruity, dark berries, black currants, toffee and a little bit of chocolate and coffee. Sweet but the finish is also a little bit sour and features some british hops. Low to medium carbonation. Creamy. Very balanced. Shows some characteristics of a Port. Lovely. An old peculiar favourite of mine.
