2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
On tap at brewery, Pours a light amber with almost no head. Aroma is typical of the style with a mild hint of hops with earthy overtones. The flavor is very similar to the aroma with a little less hop profile and more earthiness.
Sample #3 at brewpub. Medium amber with spotty lacing. Aroma of caramel, bread, honey, resin. Taste: moderately sweet with bitter finish (I’d say "quite" bitter, but after the last two this is a relief). Palate: medium body, aggressively high carbonation scrubbing my tongue raw. Overall: 3 down. I can do this. Also, yeah sports! And guns n roses. Yeah, I’m pumped! Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - AUG 4, 2014
Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a light to hazy red color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. The lacing was somewhat spotty and didn’t arrange itself in any sort of fashion - it just was all over the place in its lacing.
The smell had mainly a malty kind of sweet to roasty/earthy bittered but tangy citrus hops.
The taste was mainly sweet through the earthy maltiness. A more pronounced caramel maltiness comes out in the taste.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was right on par, as it wasn’t too sharp nor smooth - it seemed just right.
Overall, good red ale worthy of having again. BrianHagmeier (299) - Coralville, Iowa, USA - APR 11, 2014
Not bad at all! Kind of a Marzen IPA hybrid flavor. I really like it. Nice sweet start with a light body with the tang of an Oktoberfest but an IPA finish. tronraner (2459) - Walland, Tennessee, USA - SEP 18, 2011
Draught at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy rust color with beige head. The aroma is mild and toasty with some caramel, some tangerine, and grapefruit. The flavor is raisin and tangerine, light hop bitterness, grapefruit and toast in the finish. Not mindblowing, but solid. drowland (8955) - Georgia, USA - AUG 18, 2009
Had on tap at the brewpub with my fiancee but unfortunately was eating dinner and didn’t take good notes. Dogbrick (13547) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 15, 2009
Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a clear dark amber color with a thin beige head that recedes steadily. Swiss cheese lacing on the glass. Equal parts hops and malt in the nose. Medium body with moderately bitter piney hops and malt flavors. The finish is hoppy at first and leaves an earthy malt aftertaste. Solidly average Amber all around. pours a reddish amber with a thin white head. Pine hops and molasses in the nose. Similar flavor, honey and bread also. Smooth, little carbonation. My session beer from them. SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - MAY 15, 2007
On tap at the brewpub. This is not retired. Simply the brewpub changed its name. Same brewer, same beer, same recipe. Pours a semi-reddish amber in color with a non-descript white head that thins quick. Very subtle aroma of toasted grains. Watery and boring, but not offensive as some of the beers here. eve (240) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - SEP 5, 2006
Tried this at the Festival of Iowa Beers, reddish bronze color, light sweet aroma, flavor is sweetish, no discernible hops, a little citrus.
