2009 reserve on cask in brandy sifter at pub: sparkling clarity in ruddy brown pour, mild carbonation. Brassy caramel malt and fusel alcohol aroma. Floury nose with complex caramel malt flavors blunted by harsh alcohol in a too-thin medium body, some oily hold on rim but not ’legs’.

rouhlas (3628) - GREECE - MAR 21, 2017
From tap at the brewery. Clear amber copper color with off white head. Heavy malty aroma, caramel, bread, fruity, orange, dark dried fruits. Heavy sweet taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Poured up on tap at the brewpub where it exhibits a clear deep copper body that supports a tan head. The aroma offers up prunes, brown sugar and molasses. The taste delivers a pulse of cherry, dates and prune fruity sweetness leading to brown sugar and molasses. To midway a nice yet modest in strength kettle caramelization creates another tasty facet to the experience. This is a real nice English barelywine sipper.

Little bit more bitter than I like in barleywines, but still solid overall.

944play (421) - Santa Rosa, California, USA - JAN 24, 2016
2014 on cask. Garnet with fine low off-white head. Stupendous peach, dried apple, gummy bear, and cigar box nose. Intense fig and fruitcake flavor goodness is tailed by gentler pine and ginger notes. Finish is of a drawn out cola experience, with the low carbonation deceptively prominent. What a gem.

BeerFunGuy (875) - California, USA - MAR 21, 2014
A mildly fruity aroma of dates. It has a brown color with gold notes. A relatively mild flavors slightly fruity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
