Dark brown. Chocolate malts and some grassy hops on the nose. Tastes like a bitter chocolate stout. Just alright for me.

12oz bottle shared by JohnGonk! Pours a dark brown to black color with a thin foamy tan head. Aroma of mostly sweet caramel, some roasted malt, citrus, and a hint of hazelnut. Taste of bitter roasted coffee, sweet caramel, lemon juice, and grapefruit. cards04 (2822) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - OCT 6, 2013
Sampled at Happy Harrys Beer and Bacon Festival in Grand Forks. Nice roasty and hoppy aromas and flavours. Well Balanced. mully262 (56) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - OCT 2, 2013
Dark body with off white head. This is definitely more on the stout side of the black IPA style. Like a really nice stout with noticable hops, rather than just a darkened or slightly roasted malt IPA, which is more typical of black IPAs. Anyway, this was unique and very tasty.

12oz bottle, very dark brown color, with a pillowy tan-colored head, nice bread, toasted, chocolate, black, biscuity malt, brown chocolate nose, with a light coffee, burnt dried fruit note and a faint earthy floral leafy, grassy hop accent in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, fruity, nice dark bitter chocolate baking bar, chocolate cake, coffee, brown chocolate, chocolate bran muffin character with an earthy flowery tobacco, leafy, grassy hoppy flavour, leading towards a chocolatey, coffee, roasty maltiness, lingering leafy, grassy hop bitterness finish. kwoeltje (2233) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - SEP 8, 2013
(tap) deep black with tan head. Toasted malt aroma with some hops. Flavor is coffee, toasted malt, with strong hop finish. robgibbens (432) - Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA - JUL 26, 2013
Nice dark brown. Not quite black. Foam is nice a frothy. Aroma is roasted coffee beans which is apparent in the taste followed by a smooth finish. There is some residual aftertaste which detracts from the experience for me. Overall, not a bad drinking brew! ChiGuy68 (602) - Illinois, USA - JUL 9, 2013
Tasted from a 12oz bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a light brown frothy head. Malty taste up front with a hopped IPA finish.

12 oz. gift bottle from neighbor’s last Minn. trip stash. Poured to a Czech-pils glass with a ruby highlighted, black/brown color, frothy, brownish tan head foam that morphed into a merigue consistency, and deposited lasting waves & spots of lacing on the glass. The nose was aromatic but mild notes of roastiness, caramel, citrusy hop, sweet esters, and light, malty creaminess. The flavor presented medium, earthy and lingering hop bitterness, smooth malt to match, with a medium+ body, a pleasantly dry and bitter finish, and a bit of alcohol warmth at the finale. I really liked the balance and all around mouthfeel of this Cascadian.
