3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a darker brown with mid-sized head. Roasted malt and hop aromas. Flavor is almost a touch on the sour side. There are coffee and roasted malt flavors, too, but undercut by this weirdly sour note (maybe I got a bad bottle?).
Bottle in Seattle. Gifted by Andrew. A bit out of date I believe. Dissipating off-white head. Dark cola body, looks as much like a dark schwarz beer as a brown ale. A touch of toffee and roast on nose. Pretty wet, thin body. A little bitter, burnt grain. Sweet cola or root beer impression. A bit thin, missing a full ale feeling. Burnt root beer. Can. Pours clear brown medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, floral, and fruit. Medium sweet taste. Medium-light body, smooth texture, mild bitterness hop finish. Not bad overall. hfmejias (1283) - Marshall, Minnesota, USA - JAN 10, 2016
12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured brown, clear, big tan head and lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malts, some roast, some nuts. Taste is consistent but on sweet side, malty, nutty, some coffee notes. Not bad but a bit too sweet for my taste. superspak (5790) - Michigan, USA - DEC 7, 2015
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 7/15/2015. Pours slightly hazy deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/chocolate/coffee, herbal, light dark fruit, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/chocolate/coffee, herbal, light dark fruit, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nutty/chocolate/coffee, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. damn nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/yeast ester flavors; with a great bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.9%. Overall this is a damn nice American brown ale style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

It was nice to find this Lost Trout. A good but unspectacular brown ale. Take it fishing...even if from your couch. andrewje41 (4085) - Kenmore, Washington, USA - JUN 14, 2015
12 oz bottle poured. Pours dark with very little head. Sweet malty aroma. Flavor is a little on the sweet side, a little caramel, and a little nutty late. Overall one of the better tasting brown ales I’ve had in a while. Drinks nice. Good beer. RobertDale (6650) - Lansing, Kansas, USA - JUN 11, 2015
