The brown and caramel malts give this classic British style brown ale a lovely mouth feel and a fragrant, toasty malt aroma.

NOTE: They sometimes serve "Grizzly Red" in place of "Brown Bear" and use the same labeled spot on the sampler tray. Check if you are unsure.

Sampler at the brewpub, and am I glad it was only a sampler. Mahogany coloured with a wispy head. Grainy, nutty aroma. Flavour of bland brown toast. Not good.

Deep garnet. Generally wan aroma: rye bread, grape nuts and walnuts. Overall a distinctly unpleasant character of moldy sandwich bread. Dry blonde malt body somewhat clumsily overlaid with a rather brutish chocolatey roast aspect. Dry, fairly bitter finish.

Dark maroon, amber color. Rich caramel coffee smell. Heavily on the side of coffee flavored, with a touch of bitterness, but easy to drink and somewhat thin. This is a decent brown ale, but not my favorite. Worth a shot.

Draught, Thirsty Bear. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted/roasted grain, cookie, caramel, nuts), lightly hoppy (herbs). Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Very nice as brown ales go.

Brown coloured body - no way! Light tan head on the beer with a bunch of bubbles rising from the bottom. Aroma of vinegar (mostly) with malt and light nuts noticeable. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong taste of chocolate along with malt in the flavour. Aftertaste is quick, but consisted of malt even more so. Overall, a decent beer, but Im not a huge fan of browns. I sampled this beer on draught at the brewpub on 28-February-2007.
