COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The brown and caramel malts give this classic British style brown ale a lovely mouth feel and a fragrant, toasty malt aroma.

NOTE: They sometimes serve "Grizzly Red" in place of "Brown Bear" and use the same labeled spot on the sampler tray. Check if you are unsure.

Tap. Reddish brown, strong roasted coffee aroma. Something like a little brother of their stout. Dark malty notes throughout., some chocolate. Mild effervescence, some soda flavor in there.

Nice dark brown color. The smell is of roasted malt. The taste is of sweet roasted malt and possibly a hint of chocolate. OVerall good beer.

flutetokill (523) - Fresno, California, USA - DEC 27, 2003
Clear orange/brown color with a creamy off-white head. Faint hops and malt aroma. Crisp, slightly hoppy flavor with toasted nut and brown sugar. Fairly dry finish.

loweredsixth (946) - Clovis, California, USA - DEC 27, 2003
On tap at the brewery: Deep golden orange color with a very light tan head. The aroma was full of coffee, nuts, and chocolate. The flavor was extremely nutty with a huge coffee grounds character in the aftertaste. Crisp and slightly thick feel.

Oristo (67) - Orinda, California, USA - JAN 7, 2003
A few flaws: weak dissipating head and no lacing, no real nose when it came to the table. Good rich malty taste and soft finish.

Tap. Brown to slightly ruby color. Good malt and caramel flavors with some nuts.

Average brown ale, some burnt caramel. Rather uninteresting.................

2.1
joet (2662) - Wilsonville, Oregon, USA - JUN 24, 2001
Looks like there's some nitrogen in there -- tiny bubbles. Much lighter bodied than what I remember -- thin batch? Tastes a bit wet. Some snap to the hopping.

Caramel and malt nose, fair hop crispness, nutty and nice. A very good brown ale, good with most food.
