Caramel and malt nose, fair hop crispness, nutty and nice. A very good brown ale, good with most food. flutetokill (523) - Fresno, California, USA - DEC 27, 2003
Clear orange/brown color with a creamy off-white head. Faint hops and malt aroma. Crisp, slightly hoppy flavor with toasted nut and brown sugar. Fairly dry finish. Gorbalev (3000) - Ontario, CANADA - NOV 29, 2005
On tap, at the brewpub. Dark brown, small tan head. Smells like toast! Toasted nutty brown aroma - nice. Really nice nutty brown taste. Lingering sweetness. A little watery, but otherwise solid - an excellent brown ale. Oscbert (1302) - Lincoln, California, USA - JUN 18, 2009
~Pours a clear brownish amber color with small head.
~Strong scent of caramel malts, alcohol and some roasted malt (coffee like).
~Roasted malt flavor, some toffee and slight citrus.
~Medium smooth feel. Roasted malt finish.
~Very nice brown ale! gets better as it warms up.

On tap at the brewery: Deep golden orange color with a very light tan head. The aroma was full of coffee, nuts, and chocolate. The flavor was extremely nutty with a huge coffee grounds character in the aftertaste. Crisp and slightly thick feel.

I had this on draft at the Thirsty Bear brewpub.
Roasty flavor and nose, finishes nicely. georgebrassin (176) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 19, 2010
Dark brown with tint of red. Small rocky head. Aroma is nuts, roasty, malt, chocolate. Flavor is nutty, bitter, chocolate. Very good. AceOfHearts (1374) - Mountain View, California, USA - SEP 9, 2004
Tap. Reddish brown, strong roasted coffee aroma. Something like a little brother of their stout. Dark malty notes throughout., some chocolate. Mild effervescence, some soda flavor in there. lb4lb (2587) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUL 23, 2007
Dark maroon, amber color.
Rich caramel coffee smell.
Heavily on the side of coffee flavored, with a touch of bitterness, but easy to drink and somewhat thin. This is a decent brown ale, but not my favorite. Worth a shot. rayOfBeer (674) - El Cerrito, California, USA - DEC 3, 2008
Poured from tap at brewpub brown with medium-sized light tan head. Aroma is roasted grain and chocolate. Flavor is roasted grain, cocoa powder, light toast, some nuttiness and a nice smooth light bitterness. Palate is light malt with a smooth grainy bitterness, seems more like a porter than a brown ale. Overall, this beer was my favorite of the night beside the barleywine.
