Bottle. Somewhat malty sweet, drinkable, finishes clean. Not a lot happening but not offensive. krisbierjaeger (844) - dolores, Colorado, USA - AUG 24, 2003
reversing the trend of thirsty dog's "bad label/good beer" policy, this one features a charming centerpiece on it's label: the photogenic husky "balto", wonder dog-- (tho why balto is letting that creepy ogre near him is not known). the appearance is as golden amber as a fresh krispie cream donut, the head popped like a built in flash bulb, and then left me alone with this artificially festive flat liquid. the aroma is very mild honey on toasted bagel, and a brisk carbonation carrys the whole flavor package to mid tongue and dumps it-- like the sudden ripping of a grocery bag, spilling an
illicit shopping list of sticky caramel buns, lipton double-sweet lemon tea, and watery cream soda. i don't like to think i'm a man who is easily cloyed, but this soft drink cloyed me with a vengance: the vague finishing bitterness only served to mimic aspartame. yuck. run balto, run! hotstuff (5140) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - AUG 24, 2003
The Rathskeller Wine & Beer Fest:When poured, this beer had a small sized tan head with a clear body and no carbonation. The hue was yellow-gold and the nose was malty as was the flavor. The mouthfeel of this beer was smooth. Not much to expand on with this one. This doesn't taste like an Ale, and indeed the name of the beer is "Balto Heroic Golden Lager" and it seems very Vienna-ish - bordering on Bock territority. And it's OK; very sweet/butter/toffee, a lot of chemicalness in the ending. kujo9 (1095) - North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA - APR 19, 2003
Bottled Version: Head pours white but it doesn't last; Golden amber body is crystal clear. The smell of caramel and melanoidin malt dominate as well as a little toasty aroma. The melanoidins give the impression of being a little raisiny, but clean and non fruity otherwise as well as no hops in the nose. Malty sweetness and toast malt flavors at the start, slight melanoidin malt not as dominant as in flavor. Well balanced with a malty finish. Hops seem only to balance and are not really present anywhere but to bitter. Carbonation is moderate and body is medium for this very drinkable session lager.

i'm having a hard time describing this beer. Probably because i had it in between to really good other beers. Light, easy, ok... i guess Drew (2411) - Kent, Ohio, USA - SEP 22, 2002
This was a big ole dog that’ll keep you company all day long. An easy drinkin’ amber, full of malts - especially strong taste of Werther’s candy. very little aroma. bluemeow76 (693) - Lewis Center, Ohio, USA - MAY 23, 2002
Caramely & smooth. No lacing. An easy drink. Dogbrick (12912) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 21, 2002
This one had a strange mouthfeel to me, hard to describe but I had trouble getting it past my tongue (?). Honey colored with an amber hue. Very syrupy malty flavor.
