bottle poured a apple cider golden in color with an initial wave of carbination quickly disappearing and leaving basically no head or carbination to speak of. smell is lightly cider like, good dose of yeasts and flowers, mild malts, and a lightly sweetened caramel background. on to the tasting, refreshing from the first sip, decent malts, good snap that comes from the yeast i believe, does have some toasted hints, and some slightly sweet caramel. initially goes down sweet but leaves a light bitterness on the tongue. at first i did not think this was going to be a winner but am warming to it as the glass goes on. I am partial to liking the thirsty dog beers though. 3fourths (9349) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 20, 2007
Great beer. Nose of apples, snappy biscuit and pear hops, wheat, corn cob and stewed peaches. Thick, hoppy and sweet, then it turns just the slightest bit sour (yeast?), before finishing as a gooey old apple and pear thing. Great stuff. patrick767 (4063) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - JUL 19, 2007
bottle - Pours hazy gold with a very thin head. It has an extremely light malt aroma. The flavor is good sweet malts balanced by some mild hops, more hops than I expected to notice in a 9 IBU beer. It’s medium bodied and bubbly on the palate. Not bad. jimhilt (2611) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - JUL 14, 2007
UPDATED: JUL 15, 2007 Pours a three finger off-white head that fades quickly to a ring leaving no lace. Clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Slight hoppy nose. Flavor is sweet with hoppy overtones, unusually for a lager. $1.80 for a 12oz bottle from Tully’s Beer and Wine Well, ME. shigadeyo (3749) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 10, 2007
6/26/2007: Balto Heroic Lager is light amber-gold in color with mild carbonation and lots of suspended fine sediment. It has s diminishing beige head that leaves no lasting crown. Toasted malt, light caramel, and a touch of hops are incorporated into the aroma. The flavor is smooth, easy caramel malt with a bit of fruitiness and a good level of hop bitterness. It is also slightly sweet anf floral like honey. The boy is medium-light and smooth on the palate, but a bit thin at times. I like this beer and could really drink a lot of it. It is quite good and well-balanced overall.

Bottle; pours a golden copper with a small to medium white head. Aroma of caramel and citrus, a little sweetness and honey. Flavor is caramel and toasted malt; Some citrus, with a sweet finish. Some breadiness and yeast in the flavor too. Good for the style, and nice on a warm summer day. Beerdedone (3408) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 26, 2007
Sampled with stegosaurus. Pours a copper color with a thin white head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, corn, and some wheat. Flavor is light caramel and some toasted malts with a light bitter finish. cking (1175) - North Canton, Ohio, USA - MAY 21, 2007
Rated 7/13/06: Quality brewer, decent lager. Aroma is crisp and light with a minimal scent of pale malt and a nice sweet kicker. Bottle says there is a caramel presence and I’m sure this is what I’m smelling, pleasant. Poured a rather dark golden color with a medium amber tint, great color. Minimal head that diminishes and very little lacing, rather disappointing. Flavor is sturdy and very good, I’m not a huge lager fan but there is enough involved with this one to hold my interest. Dry and slightly malty the amber malt and caramel blend in nicely. Crisp and dry there is a clean mouthfeel with a mildly sweet finish. This beer complimented my sausage pizza real well, for what it is it’s a decent beer. Overall I like more complex and heavier beers but this is nice for it’s style. stegosaurus (1882) - Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 18, 2007
Bottle sampled with Beerded_one. Pours hazy copper with a thin white sparce head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, and toast. The flavor is thin, weak, sweet, bitter, and citrusy. Watery body.
