This was a big ole dog that’ll keep you company all day long. An easy drinkin’ amber, full of malts - especially strong taste of Werther’s candy. very little aroma. Schroppfy (2360) - Łódż, Warsaw, Poland; Michigan, Ohio, USA - JUN 15, 2003
This doesn't taste like an Ale, and indeed the name of the beer is "Balto Heroic Golden Lager" and it seems very Vienna-ish - bordering on Bock territority. And it's OK; very sweet/butter/toffee, a lot of chemicalness in the ending. Panzuriel (2238) - Westerville, Ohio, USA - DEC 5, 2004
Hazy Apple Juice colored liquid. Little head. Nose of sweet hops. Flavot is a sweet and mediumly malty. NO tang. Flavor is mellow and smooth. Body is unimpressive. Finishes cleanly. bubbleflubber (2226) - Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA - FEB 25, 2006
Hugely sweet and earthy nose; pours clear light oak into the glass, with a diminished head, leaving soft spider lace. Very invested in caramel malt, with a swift bitter back that leaves the palate not thin, but also not full. I don’t find it initally cloying at all, as some other raters have inferred. This could change, however, if I made it a session beer. For me, it’s good, and definitely one to remember again in the future... Good brew overall. whaleman (2178) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 21, 2006
Hazy, deep golden body with a substantial yeast load and a pure white, loose soapy head. Aroma is syrupy sweet and smells like pale wort. Has notes of buttery nuts, flowers and biscuit dough. Flavor has sweet, nutty honey tones and seems a little underattenuated. Grain husks seem evident. Maybe the husky notes are for Balto. A lightly tart aspect lends some balance as does a spicy finish with some stealthy hop bitterness. Not something I would really care to revisit.

Yellow color, not much of a head. Sweet, fruity, easy to enjoy. Something I would drink alot of, but not something I would buy again. A nice alternative to BMC though. TheBeerOrg (2145) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - FEB 8, 2008
Pours dark golden with a mostly receding wispy off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, nuts, and sticky wort. Taste is malty, toffee, nuts, sticky bread and herbal hops. Mouthfeel is full bodied and lightly sticky with moderate carbonation. scraff (2121) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - OCT 2, 2007
Dark hazy orange, thin off white head. Nose held notes of grainy caramel and hints of grassy earthed hops and apple skin. Slight sour flavors balance over light grassy flroals and peppery hops notes. Just a touch of breadiness and toasted sweet malt rounds this out. Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, dry, bittersweet finish. Not great, not bad.. Thanks for the bottle Aaron. blklab2007 (2120) - Connecticut, USA - SEP 5, 2007
bottle poured a apple cider golden in color with an initial wave of carbination quickly disappearing and leaving basically no head or carbination to speak of. smell is lightly cider like, good dose of yeasts and flowers, mild malts, and a lightly sweetened caramel background. on to the tasting, refreshing from the first sip, decent malts, good snap that comes from the yeast i believe, does have some toasted hints, and some slightly sweet caramel. initially goes down sweet but leaves a light bitterness on the tongue. at first i did not think this was going to be a winner but am warming to it as the glass goes on. I am partial to liking the thirsty dog beers though. Goodgrief (2028) - Middletown, Delaware, USA - MAR 23, 2008
Oct. 2007 - Orange brown pour with almost no head or lacing. Chunky yeasties in the bottom. Flavor was light caramel, sweet with a bitter/sour finish. There were also some notable citrus aspects, sweet overripe grapefruit. Very disappointing from a brewer that I love their other offerings....
