Sample at The Pub during Christmas In July as part of Ohio Brew Week. The beer pours a slightly hazed reddish-amber color with a thin and dense light beige head that diminishes steadily. Thin rings of lacing. Aroma of bourbon, malt and sweet spices. Full-bodied and smooth with flavors of cinnamon, bready malt, ginger and bourbon. The finish is boozy with a malty and spicy aftertaste. Above average overall.

1.5 L on Christmas Eve with Dad. Great way to spend some time with family by sipping on the big guy. Pours hazy, rust brown, dense off white head. Sticky lacing on my class. Nose of bourbon, peat, cinnamon, pear, ginger. Once you’ve taken a sip, esters, sweet honey, bourbon, cinnamon and interesting spiciness pulls through on a long finish. Low to medium carbonation. Quite balanced, nice as the barrel aging wasn’t an overkill. Solid beer. Will revisit in a few years with some age on another big guy.

Bottle given to me for my 40th, enjoyed at the mayors ball. Hazy brown pour with a light head. Vanilla, bourbon, musty wood, and caramel in the nose. Very nice flavor. Very well balanced. Vanilla, wood, light, light bourbon, a touch of lightly oxidized caramel and a touch of spicyness...nutmeg perhaps. Quite enjoyable. Creamy mouthfeel with plenty of carbonation. Let me also note a bit of ginger.

Mahogany colored pour with a small khaki head. The nose is quite spicy with tons of all spice, clove, and nutmeg notes. A nice sweetness of vanilla, bourbon, and caramel. A hint of gingerbread, too. Tastes like bourbon and gingerbread. A bit of all spice and nutmeg, some sweet toffee, caramel, and vanilla, too. A touch of alcohol and oak, a little bit of candied dark fruit, too.

Bottle. Poured hazy ruddy muddy brown with minimal tan head. Nose was earthy malt, X-mas spice, oak, figgy fruit. Tasted fruity, earthy, oaky and woody, with nutmeg, cinnamon, and notes of brown sugar, figs, and a fruity finish.

Murky amber color with a small beige head out of the bottle. Strong spice and bourbon nose. Great warming bourbon sense to this beer. Cinnamon, nutmeg, bourbon and vanilla notes. Full flavored beer with a nice use of a barrel.

Draft pour at the source. Kind of pricy at $8 for an 8 ounce pour. Pours a clear copper with a beige head of foam. The aroma is big barrel and moderate spice. Taste is boozy and sweet. Thick body and medium carbonation.

Poured into a snifter at the tasting room. Muddy light brown with small head. No lace. Aroma is some holiday spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, pie spice, anise, and caramely malts. Some breads and toffee. Taste is mild malts, caramel. toffee, spices from the nose, and some mild barrel. Medium mouth, mild carbonation. Slick. Not much in the BA department but it was good.

Draft at MOTR Pub at X______X concert on January 23, 2016. At first I thought this was the regular edition of this beer. But the words scribbled on the tap handle in black magic marker weren’t very clear, and the taste is definitely one of a beer that’s barrel aged. Plus, it was served in proper glassware (read: smaller glass), something I haven’t known MOTR Pub to do much. Nice dark amber/brown color, sweet malty/spicy aroma that’s a cut above a lot of Christmas/winter brews, smooth but rich flavor of malt/bourbon/vanilla/spice with the spice--and, thankfully, the bourbon--not overdone. Very fine beer that’s made for slow sipping on a cold winter night.

It pours dark amber with a tan head that has low head retention. There are strong aroma from various spices. Aromas of bourbon, honey, flowery notes, and nutmeg. The flavors are highly spiced which include nutmeg and other holiday spices. There is strong bourbon flavors and some toffee note from sweet malt. There are flowery elements as well. It has a full body with a slightly a low bitterness in the finish. Overall, this is a beer which lots of spicy flavor that works well with the bourbon and malty notes.
