California crisp has a light fruity aroma. The color is a light copper with an off white head. There is a fruity essence to the flavor with a caramel background. Crisp has a medium body and a quick clean finish. humulus (339) - Salem, Missouri, USA - NOV 15, 2004
Deep orange brown. Layered goodness. A bitter and perfumy quality to the flavor. Carbonation light. A few off flavors induced by malts. Overall, rather papery and bland/flat. Its alright. Silphium (3199) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - JUL 24, 2004
Sampled from a fresh growler. I really think Thirsty Dog could have taken this in an interesting direction- instead, it is merely a watered-down version of their "stock" beer. Clear amber/copper appearance, thin off-white head. Aroma opens up with grassy hops that settle into a light fruity malt matrix. Light, fruity flavor with hints of caramel, touching on candy, with grassy hops tickling the palate. Light body and light in every aspect, but not very complex or interesting. aracauna (3606) - Georgia, USA - JUN 6, 2004
This was a hazy dark amber with a wisp of white head. It had a fruity, flowery aroma. Caramel and toast. It’s light and a bit sweet. Drew (2411) - Kent, Ohio, USA - MAY 31, 2004
Smelled "fresh". Unlike the other hooligans at my table (Jsquire, BBB63, & Aracauna), my glass had fantastic lacing - it had to have something to do with me because this phenomonon continued throughout most of our day. Body was light, almost watery; taste had a citrusy zing down the center with (only) hints of bread. Finish was crisp and clean and left you wanting more. First brew of Drew’s Magical Mystery Tour 2004.

Hazy orange with a very thin white head that disappeared to a ring very quickly. Very little nose. Some faint hop notes with doughy yeast hints. Refreshing because of its watery body. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAY 31, 2004
Amber hue with small head and no lace. The aroma hints of orange zest, apple, apricot, caramel, toffee, rye bread and floral hops. The taste has a mild bitterness with a fruity character, good malt balance. The mouthfeel is smooth, clean and crisp with some chalky aftertaste. A good session beer. Clear amber color, nice white head, very mild flavor. It's not hoppy, but certainly not sweet. I don't taste Any rye. It's an OK session or lawnmower beer. Not bad, but not great. JCW (1278) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 4, 2003
This beer medaled at the GABF, not as a rye beer(which it is), but in sort of a miscellaneous category. Looks like a pale ale. Moderate white head, translusent gold color. Aroma of sweet carmel. As previously note little hops to speak of. Flavor is mostly sweet. Finish sweet and carmelly too! I liked this beer and think it would make a good session beer. pivo (2685) - GERMANY - NOV 16, 2003
Light nose, pale amber color, sticky head. Pez candy-like taste. Odd mix of hops and malt - bac balance. Unsuccessful.
