This beer is made with one grain and 4 Belgian yeasts, a deceptive golden color, and a malty palate lend complexity to this Belgian Trippel Ale. ABV = 10%, IBUís = 31, OG = 23.1 P

The three headed Hellhound of Greek Mythology, that stood at the gates to Hades, lends his name and three heads to this elegant, full bodied Belgian Style Trippel Ale. A deceptive golden color and wonderful malty palate bring bold complexity to this big brew.

bottle. Golden with lots of sediment and small head. Not sure why thereís this much sediment in a tripel. This is pretty boozy, but flavor gets better as it warms up.

FROTHINGSLOSH (7694) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 15, 2013
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a murky amber-tan color with a small foamy white head that faded quickly and left good lacing. The aroma was sweet with notes of fresh cut peaches and pears. The flavor was sweet and tangy table sugar followed by an almost overwhelming boozy presence that then led to notes of peach, pear, honey and bread. Long boozy finish with lingering peach and pear notes. Full bodied. Other than the massive booziness a really enjoyable brew.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Greenville, SC. Pours a darker than anticipated orange with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of light candi sugar and citrus. The taste is more malt forward than most tripelís giving the beer a sweeter taste than expected. The lingering sweetness on the palate is not too cloying and is cut by the alcohol. This is more of a Belgian Strong Ale than a tripel in my opinion but it is a good beer.

Poured into a wine glass. Copper color, hazy due to live yeast. 1 finger of head that did not last long. Aroma was very strong banana, reminded me of a California Chardonnay. Taste was sweeter than other triples Iíve had, with a slightly boozy finish. Pretty good beer.

Pours cloudy gold into a tulip. Bright white head quickly recedes to hug rim. Sour caramel aromas. Dusty caramel and sour fruit front to back. Sweet lasting fruit finish.

JStax (6356) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - FEB 3, 2013
12 ounce bottle. Pours a translucent copper color with a thin white head of foam. The aroma is very light. Vanilla, wood, grainy. The aroma is almost too light to detect. Taste is an estery sweet, malt forward. Drying on the palate. Alcohol is covered for the most part, but there is a twinge of heat in the finish.

Bottle, I know I had this one as well as I remember the name, bottle and even the flavor. Heavy banana, and Belgian-y esters flowed in this one, lightly boozy with notes of pear, apple, grape juice and some light vegetal notes. Most American made triples are pretty bad and this was no exception.

PGHbeer77 (571) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 1, 2013
12 oz. Bottle. A quality trippel, high on flavor, and low on scent. The musty, custard scent was the low point. Otherwise, it was a beautiful pour, cloudy dark copper with a white foamy pour. Medium bodied, creamy texture to a dry finish. Apricot and pear fronted flavor to a banana custard and cream finish.

Appearance: Pours a lightly hazed, golden-colored body with a medium-small, fleeting, white head. Nil lacing.

Smell: Yields a somewhat sugary nose, but also an aroma of fruit cocktail, with alcohol replacing the precious juices with which it usually packed.

Taste: Simple, modest malted grains glazed in simple syrup. A little bubblegum, a bit more sugar advancing, then, some fruitiness of strawberry, peach, and melon juice. A couple whole buds of clove. If it stopped there, Iíd be content, but it has a real sharp sting from the alcohol, with a touch of acetone to it, leaving a lingering singe in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation.

Overall: Hot, but not in a good way. Itís harshness and brash character overrides any goodness. This is unfortunate. Instead of a bottle capped with gold foil, it deserves to be sheathed in a brown paper bag.

Cloudy medium amber with a full, long-lasting, rim head and swirls of lace. The taste is big caramel malt that grows wonderfully through the palate to an alcohol infused finish. No doubt about the 10%abv. Well-conceived, and highly enjoyable.
