On tap during Ohio Brew Week 2013, taster from the CI. Black color, pretty much. Thin off-white head. Some loose lace. Medium body. Kind of crisp, lightly soft, moderate strength carbonation. More dry finish. Nice, light to moderate smoke aroma, some dark chocolate, lighter roast, some earthy hop. Moderate bitter taste, minimal sweet. Interesting stuff, because it’s smoked and black. But otherwise overall, just OK.. Was hoping for more from this daknole (11402) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - OCT 23, 2012
GABF. Dark brown pour. Smoke, prunes, raisins, light coffee hit up front followed by a lingering bitter note, then more smoke and fruit. Nice stuff. Tmoney99 (14963) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 18, 2012
Draft sample. Poured clear dark brown with an average light brown frothy head that was mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate smoke balanced aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet smoke flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Complex interesting beer.

Finally got this 12 pack in from Heinen’s wait list for months. Well worth the wait. pours roasted coffee bean dark brown with a one finger tan head. somewhat syrupy in nature. Roasted malts, chocolate, burnt cedar on the nose. dough, chocolate, nuttiness with bitterness on the back on the tongue. rich mouthfeel. smooth, abbreviated finish leaving this well balanced and drinkable. didn’t have high expectations and I was pleasantly surprised. well done. Bottle from the long sought-after Ohio Brewers Collaboration sampler. The beer is a clear dark brown color with a medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, smoke and fruit. Medium body with flavors of smoked malt, dark fruit and chocolate. The finish is short and roasty with the smoke character falling off quickly. Decent overall.

Bottle shared by Dogbrick. Clear brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, smoke and roast. Flavor starts with chocolate and roasted malts, then adds a smokiness and a bit of a metallic character before a thin finish. superspak (6005) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - MAY 18, 2011
12 ounce bottle. Pours dark brown color with a delayed 2 finger dense tan head with incredible retention that reduces to a thin lacing cap that lingers. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, smoke, roasted malt, and a bit of cola. There are some decently strong aromas, but they are a little on the odd side. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malt, smoke, caramel, coffee, and a small amount of dark fruit. A slight amount of bitterness shows up on the finish and lingers for a short period with roasted chocolate flavors. A bit of prickly carbonation felt as well. Medium body with a bit of a creamy feel. Great drinkability as well. No alcohol in the taste but a slight warming on the finish was noticed. Overall this is quite impressive stuff, glad I have another one of these in the collab 12 pack.
