Pours a black body with a thin milk chocolate head. Lacing is pretty good and head retention is above average.
Smells of roasted chocolate malts and slight metal. Also getting some smoked malt with bakers chocolate. Not much hops or alcohol is detected.
Taste is of a classic rich porter. Lots of sweet malt paired with burnt malts also. Bits of chocolate and coffee are in the mix. Very slight alcohol detected, not much hops.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and well carbonated. Head added slightly is consistency.
Overall this was a solid beer. No flaws to it but also nothing outstanding about it. This beer was on my want list for years, glad I got to try it, another tasty beer from Thirsty Dog. ARH (1138) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 6, 2014
UPDATED: DEC 19, 2014 On tap, poured into a snifter. The aroma is initially a strong raisin and milk chocolate blend with a light, smokey touch. Later on there’s some apple and plum with a nutty coffee aroma. It pours a deep, dark, and clear mahogany color with a medium, soapy brown ring and a light lace. There’s lots of fuzzy carbonation to the slick and smooth beer. The medium-full body contains notes of chocolate, raisin, and plum with a smoke and ash finish. The smokiness lingers lightly with an astringent touch. pdx77 (1484) - Oregon, USA - NOV 18, 2014
From bottle. Deep dark brown with a little bit of dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate, rum, and coffee. Taste is cocoa nibs, light smoke, coffee, and some hints of bourbon. Creamy, smooth mouthfeel.

$9.99 for the 6pack purchased at Kroger, the High St. location (Columbus). Consumed with good friends around a campfire, our reserved site on Hocking Hills State Park land. To pint (or large Styrofoam cup - whichever), it pours a syrupy mauve-tinted dark brown, with which a bubbly beige head 1½ fingers in length stood. Aromas of cigar ash, pine cones, autumnal leaves, sawdust, charcoal, sweat, unripe blueberries, and leather. Tastes the same with the addition of stale coffee, cashew butter, and dried sage. Chocolate malt experienced by swallow, alongside minerals, black licorice, and London yeast. Decent mouthfeel - one sip, and it was gone - or at least that’s how it felt. Slightly watery, though that didn’t get in the way of me enjoying it. Not fantastic, but would have again. Surprised I haven’t had this before.
