Creamy and full-bodied, with a complex character from generous amounts of roasted, toasted, and caramel malts. For those who demand flavor, this is the perfect libation. Bronze Medal winner 2003 GABF, Gold Medal winner 2005 GABF.

Very chocolatey malt smells. Pours black brown with a thin tan head. Some lacing. Sweet tastes of coffee with some alcohol in the short finish. Pretty good but not the best Imperial Ive had.

Apperance: Dark, inpenetrable brown (almost black) body with a thick, gorgeous, cascading head. Smell: A bit shy at first, but an aroma of chocolate with a whiff of brown sugar. Taste: Wow, very silky and smooth, unabrassive. Malty with a touch of bitterness and some toffee in there. Mouthfeel: Roasted tones with caramel. Smoothness prevails, great balance. Theres some coffee in there minus the coarseness.

black; very nice, chocolaty, roasted malt aroma; great roasted malt flavor with chocolate notes and hints of coffee; really smooth for such a high gravity beer; bitter chocolate in the finish

Bottle in Seattle. Rainy night tasting. Huge thanks to Chris for sending these to me awhile ago. Tasted side by side with the Bourbon version. Thin foam, dark red-brown edge, letting some light through. Deep chalky, bitter chocolate aroma. Lightest edge of sweetness. Smooth sip, bitter coffee and bitter chocolate. Roast malts, dry and toasty. There is a sweet element but it is dominantly bitter and roast. A little thin at times. But body is lovely crushed, freshly roasted coffee beans. Quite nice and a modestly unique modern imperial stout (that harkens back to older times). I really like it.

Bottle, thanks luttonm! Dark brown color with small tan head. Aroma is ashes, coffee, earthy, roasted malts, liquorice. Taste is the same flavours, but quite heavy on the liquorice. Dry and bitter roasted finish. Still full-bodied. Very well-made, though Im not the biggest fan of liquorice in beers.

malty, chocolately aromas. pitch black in color with decent brown head. fully body. taste is mostly of roasted barley and coffee, dark chocolate plays a lesser role in flavor.

With Audrie and Marissa, bottle at Big Bear, Coral Springs, pours a dark rich black pour with an ephemeral beige head. Nose is roasted malt, Java, burnt wood, black licorice. Taste is sweet bitter chocolate with roasted deep malt . Finishes sweetly on the same tasting notes with a rich chocolate dessert ending ! Nice !! Quaff Score 9 / 10

Bottle, because this is a shelfy in my new neighborhood. Thick sexy black pour with creamy khaki head, decent retention, great lacing. Aroma: Plenty of roast coffee, backed by marshmallow, caramel, and a hint of dark fruit. Smells very nice - even with the implied marshmallow sweetness, my expectation is that this leans to the bitter roast side. Taste is ... disappointing. Lots of roast, bitter coffee, and metal, like sucking on a copper penny that Id dropped into a can of Folgers and then for some reason put into my mouth. If thats your thing, theres no judgment here, but Im just not into it. Palate: chalky texture, full body. Lasting, lingering rusty metal finish. Overall: I have a few more bottles in this 4-pack, so maybe my impressions will change over the rest of this. As it is, maybe Im a victim of my own high expectations for this one.

Bottle shared by Brian. Pours a dark opaque black with a layer of dark tan head. Aroma and taste of coffee, super roasted malts.
