Foiled bottle. Nose is a clear ten for me: luscious deep malt, rich and oaky, Bourbon, smoke, touch of toast, deep coffee and chocolate, light whiskey lactone, caramel, subtle red berry and spice. Pour medium-brown that collects to deep, dark brown, cloudy and a little muddy; head fizzy yellow-tinged tan that quickly works itself to death. Taste strong in alcohol, slightly numbing, slightly rubbery low-medium bitterness, fire in the throat from the alcohol but not too fierce, moderately dry, big caramel and toffee, not tart. Some of the great complexity of the nose has been mashed and smushed and subjugated to the generic Big Toffee at the beer’s center, only the spice seems to have intensified. Subtle tobacco, leather, deep smoke. Very smooth body but not soft, not crisp, not oily, just a hair above flat. Dark and brooding aftertaste with black malt and roast, coffee only at the margins, but no cocoa or chocolate there. Certainly barrel character enough, though not what the opening salvo of aromatics heralded. Ultimately I don’t think I’d buy again, but I know some cigar lovers who might. Aroma, bourbon and more bourboan with a hint of oak.
Appearance, flat cola no head cola color.
Taste, bourbon, oak, vanilla, coconut. Not sure which is predominate as they all seem equal.
Palate, flat cola smooth, sorty heavy.
Overall. Did Barrel aging is a big part of the flavor component bourbon Oak vanilla coconut quite tasty especially if you like bourbon .However, in my opinion The Bourbon Barrel aging process although it adds flavor takes away from the style. 355ml bottle (thx, Yannick!) at Alex’s. Pours a hazy copper with a tan head. Aroma is is lots of bourbon, dark fruits, chocolate, boozy. Taste is the same. Very good. Mahogany color, hazy, small head. The aroma is a bit malty, and boozy, bourbon, light tobacco. Moderate malt depth, sweet caramel, strong bourbon vanilla presence, and quite strong booze too. The low bitterness and high alcohol content mean this is not really balanced beer, but it’s a very good drink.
