On-tap at Opal Divine’s Marina during Texas Craft Beer Week.
Yellow Armadillo pours as advertised, showing a bright, brassy color with a slight goldenrod haze. Good carbonation, but the eggshell white head doesn’t last too long or leave much in the way of lacing. Aroma is faint...minimal even. Touches of grassy hops, wheat, and a hint of tropical fruit sweetness.
The taste borders on blandness, but packs just enough juice to keep the palate marginally entertained. Again, light wheat flavors are backed by some tropical fruitiness. Hops are an afterthought on the finish with some grain and mineral notes. Mouthfeel is appropriate, with a crisp carbonation level and smooth, medium-light body that goes down very easily. I could put away an entire pitcher of Yellow Armadillo Wheat by myself without batting an eye, but unfortunately I’d get bored after the first pint. Thirsty Planet’s other two offerings (Buckethead IPA and Thirsty Goat Amber) are far superior. Fratto (2845) - Arlington, Texas, USA - MAR 9, 2013
