COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kom fra Thisted Bryghus i 1989 efter syv års eksperimenter. Navnet stammer fra Urban-bryggeriet i Aalborg, hvor brygmesteren fra Thisted Bryghus i slutningen af 70érne ”slog sine folder”. Her fik han første gang ”smag” for provinslivet og denne særlige øltype, som ofte i Thisted-regi betegnes som øllets gentleman. Navnet købtes efter Urban-bryggeriets lukning i 1986. Limfjords-Porteren ”kredsede” brygmesteren om frem til 1997, hvorefter han ikke mente længere at kunne forbedre produktet. Den rette blanding af maltene var opnået. Af usædvanlige ingredienser skal nævnes røgmalt og engelsk lakrids, der tilsammen giver en smagsmæssig balance på et lidt højere niveau end det sædvanligvis ses. Brygmesterens personlige favorit og ”hjertebarn”.

33 cl bottle as a gift from my brother. Pours clear dark brown with a two finger brown head. Aroma of coffee, licorice and chocolate. Medium bitter, medium carbonation, medium to light mouthfeel. Easy to drink and quite complex.

Black with brown big head. Chocolate, coffe, caramel notes. Pretty bitter and dry, some smokeiness comes at the end of the taste, very elegant.

Bottle from Lidl. Black color, beige head. Bitter taste with roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, a bit of licorice, nuts and dark fruits. Bitter finish with roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, licorice, nuts and dark fruits. Excellent porter.

Small bottle from Liberty Wine Merchants on Commercial Drive in Vancouver. A black beer with moderate tan head and a bit of smoke on the nose. The smokiness is evident on tasting. Roasted malts make up the background. The key here is balance. The smokiness is not overdone. 3.9

330ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Very dark brown color. Small size, brown head, stays. Sweet, roast, dark chocolate, malty in aroma. Roast, beans, chocolate, herbal in taste. Dirty, chocolate and booze in aftertaste. Soft carbonation. Cocoa nibs like bitterness. Sweet and boozy one.

330 ml bottle. Opaque dark brown color. Moderate sized rocky tan head. Complex aroma has notes of dark malt, tobacco, licorice, peat and sweet smoke. Flavor is dark malt, maraschino cherries, tobacco, dark chocolate, cellar funk and day old coffee. Finishes with a bittersweet cloying prune note.
