UPDATED: NOV 8, 2015 Draft at Brauerei-Gasthaus Thomann in Aug. 2014: Rusty golden. Fragmented wispy foam. Clean and focused aromas of toasted bread, pecan, breadcrust, minerals, and vibrant lemon. Soft, slightly prickly carbonation. Opens with a splash of ripe fruity esters atop a multilayered pils malt anchor which is both luscious and vivid. Springy pecan flavors trail the perfectly ripe yet increasingly waning esters. Breadcrust richness exudes with crisp definition and extends from the refined baguette pils malt so elegantly. Appetizing lemony hop acids are dusted and tempered by woody fennel notes from the Spalter Select. Munich malt draws you back for another gulp with its candied pecan and honeyed toast dimensions. Continually pecanlike finish displays fresh grassy hay notes as well, which are adorned with woody fennel seed and subdued lemon. A clean and wonderfully balanced country lager, although the pointy carbonation only exacerbates the overly lean body. A nice beer, although the exemplary Hellmuth Urstoff Hell that we found and subsequently guzzled merrily just down the road was superior in every way. ippopotamo36 (2383) - Rome, ITALY - JUN 8, 2015
At the source, namely the Thomann brewery in Wiesen-Franconia (Germany). Pours a filtered orange-amber color, kind of a caramel-like appearance, tick ivory cap. Nose: malty, bread crust, hidden notes of speck ham. Mouth: medium-soft carbonation, round body, malty, toasted bread, hops come out very softly just in the aftertaste. downender (8660) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - AUG 26, 2014
Straight from the barrel at the Bad Staffelstein bierfest, 15 August 2014, as my free beer. Amber, with a decent, off-white, head. Pleasant lagerbier, with some caramel, a touch of citrus and leafy hops, leading to a soft finish. Enjoyable drinking. 3fourths (9347) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 12, 2014
Draft at Brauerei Thomann. Clear pale amber with a short white head.
Malty, slightly dusty aroma, pilsner and Munich malt. Dried apple slices, toast / dried bread. Creamy texture, soft carbonation, semi-sweet with light bitterness. Short citrus-spice hops. Quick and simple malt finish limits it for me, but the cleanliness is appreciated.
