Quite disappointed by this one. We usually like an oatmeal stout. At least find it drinkable, but not this one. Better choices out there.
Draft at Friendly Greek in Lancsster, PA. Dark brown, tan head. Thick strong roast syrup and sweet sugar syrup aroma. Flavor has a lot of roast acidity taking away from the bigness but making it a bit aversive. No autolysis but old school impy stout. Was good 8 years ago. Bitter malt finish, not very coffee either. Coffee at the end of flavor, like cheap coffee additive as it warms. shanoknowsfood (99) - Hawaii, USA - MAY 31, 2016
Bottle @ Whole Foods. Very underrated stout (IMO). Black color. Aroma of Coffee is very strong, also chocolate and malts. Starts with heavy coffee bitterness and malty dark chocolate notes. Finishes with the coffee being well hidden and more malts & chocolate coming thru. Am not a coffee drinker so i appreciated that that flavor diminished after about the 4th sip. Thereafter it was highly enjoyable! Travlr (25496) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - MAY 7, 2016
Bottle. Pretty much black color, brown head. Aroma of licorice and coffee. Taste is earthy and bitter coffee grounds. Retains its beery characteristics. zoucrew102 (1980) - - APR 3, 2016
Bottle, thanks Christina! Strong roasted malt aroma with notes of coffee as well as light hints of dark chocolate. Pours black with a large light brown head with excellent retention and a bit of lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt flavors with light notes of coffee. Finishes smooth but a bit dry with roasted malt continuing but with the coffee bitterness coming to the foreground with a bit of dark chocolate as well. While I'm not a fan of coffee, this beer was pretty nice with coffee not being front and center. PorterPounder (8170) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 7, 2016
Rating #6800 - DeLand, Fl. - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle. Black as tar pour with some purple accents, devoid of light coming through. Sticky, but thin mocha colored head. Aroma of faint coffee, some chocolate, and creosote, pleasant. Full bodied dry stout flavor. Some baker’s unsweetened chocolate, day old black coffee and hints of pipe tobacco - finishes with some fresh topsoil. Thickish creamy mouthfeel. Overall, very decent stout.

Pours an opaque dark brown almost black color with khaki colored head. Coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, and oats on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied. Finishes with chocolate and coffee. FatTony (188) - Augusta, Georgia, USA - JAN 2, 2016
12 ounce bottle. Poured out a slightly translucent auburn with a fair cola head. Aroma was very mild, slightly coffe. Taste follows with alcohol and malt dominant over the coffee. Palate was weak. Average. corby112 (2804) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 18, 2015
Pours a dark chestnut brown color that appears pitch black and completely opaque in the glass with faint mahogany edges and a two finger beige head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention taking a while to settle and leaving sporadic spotty lacing behind.
Slightly smokey roasted dark malt aroma that’s slightly one dimensional and slightly acrid. Strong gourmet roast saves the nose but there is a really strong burnt/charcoal like presence with hints of charred toast, oatmeal, dark chocolate and ash. As it warms the coffee/espresso bean notes stand out along with subtle sweeter light malts. Nice coffee presence elevates the aroma a bit but it’s still overly roasted and one note for my preference.
On the fuller end of medium body with slightly better balance than expected but still heavily dominated by robust, deeply roasted malt. Very dry and somewhat acrid with burnt toast/malt flavor along with bitter dark chocolate, ash, charcoal, and used coffee grinds. The coffee presence was really nice in the nose but isn’t very pleasant on the palate. Tastes similar to old burnt coffee and is in desperate need of more sweetness to balance things out. There’s a touch of lighter malt with sweet chocolate and caramel but it isn’t enough to counter the heavy roast/burnt coffee flavors. Bule (2228) - California, USA - NOV 6, 2015
12oz bottle pours a black color with a bit of head. Loads of roasted malt. Coffee prominent.

Dark brown in color and mostly opaque.
Sweet malty cocoa aroma
Medium to full body
Tan head with nice ringed lace to head.
A good stout to have with dessert.
