This Coalition Ale based on the classic Old ale stylw was brewed on 25 February 2009 when the Thornbridge brewing team were joined by Mark Tranter from Dark Star Brewing in Sussex. Matured for almost two years and now ready to be sipped and enjoyed - cheers!
This unfiltered orange-hued Ale pours with a fine white head. The aroma offers notes of sandalwood and honey. In the mouth it has a soft quality but overall it’s dry with a mouth-coating bitterness and notes of honey and oriental resin. The finish has a subtle bitterness reminiscent of liquorice root.

Malts: Maris Otter Pale Ale and Crystal
Hops: Atlas, Aurora and Liberty.
Brewed February 2009 and bottled October 2010.

Bottled. An amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of straw, bread, and malt. The lavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, hops, alcohol, and bread, leading to a dry finish. Reminds me more of a bock than an old ale.

Coalition Old Ale brewed with Dark Star. On tap at the Euston Tap. Hazy amber beer, little white head. Smooth semi dry palate. Spicy dry malt with a bitter hop edge. A little honeyish sweet orange underneath but this is a bitter beer overall. Dry finish and bitter aftertaste. Okay.Original score 2.9.

ACBF. Hazy gold beer. Honeyish nose. Light soft palate, a little dry. Honey and orange and a trace of medicinal something, Okay but comes over as a honey beer more than an Old Ale.

Papsoe (25056) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 3, 2012
Bottle 50 cl. Pours a cloudy opaque golden with a small, rough off-white head. Fruity and phenollic aroma with quite some hop presence. Medium body, sweet fruit and again heavy phenols. Quite messy to be honest. 030312

Cask at the Euston Tap. Pours clear, rich gold with a thick, white cream head. Strongly attenuated malt aroma with notes of honey, toffee and lightly burnt sugar. Very nice flavor, with more attenuated sugar, caramel, bread, and hints of booze. Light to medium in body with soft carbonation and mild warmth. Thinner in body than I would have expected. Relatively short finish, lightly warming, hinting of sugar, alcohol and toffee. Starts great in the nose but struggles a bit to keep it up. Still, overall a pretty nice beer.
