Cask at the Cask Pub & Kitchen and then the White Horse, 2nd August 2010. What a fittingly fantastic beer to celebrate Jan’s entry into the Masters Division! Deep chestnut colour with a cream head. The already excellent St. Petersburg with exceptional coffee notes on top and a touch of coconut too. Slips down extremely nicely and very drinkable for the strength. Cask handpull at CP&K, Pimlico. Happy Birthday Jan!!! Black, dark brown edges. Thin beige head. Bit of powder, but the coffee is beautiful. Glorious beer. Horse, Parsons Green. Quite much pitch black colour with not too much head. Aroma is caramel, roasted malts, lots of coffee, chocolate and vanilla along with some liquorice as well. Also some mild alcohol. Flavour is a very pleasant mix of the same. Long coffeeish and roasted aftertaste.

Clear dark brown beer. Light tan head. Lovely chocolate nose with some coffee in there as well. Light semi dry palate. Rich coffee and chocolate well integrated with some tangy dark fruits - blackcurrant, cherry. Cocoa chocolate. All very well joined up and balanced. Dry finish. Rich and very tasty.
2010-08-02. Very dark brown near black body with a modest beige head and lace. Flavour is interesting. Sweet malt core but the highlights are a dry coffee like roast, sweeter mocha hints, Coffee Crisp candy bar, lingering dry bitterness and mocha notes. 7+ More mocha in the aroma, very interesting roast character has a profile that defies a sufficiently detailed analysis by me, coffee grounds but in a more pleasant way than I usually mean when I say that. 8+ Smooth medium bodied palate. 3+ Really good. Wow. Truely outstanding. Opaque in colour; dark rich malts, creamy, guey, vanilla, really nice levels of bitterness, dark chocolate, coffee.Oily, low carbanation. Hand pulled cask at the C&K, Pimlico. Come on guys! How can you possibly give this beer anything short of a mid 4? Stunning body, roast malts and coffee with a distinct barrel aged woodiness. Plenty of alcohol but so drinkable. I drank far too many of these and subsequently failed to reach Jan’s do at Parson’s Green. Cask at The White Horse, Parsons Green. Black with a small froth. Earthy aroma, hints of chocolate. In the mouth fruity, bitter chocolate and quite earthy flavours. Original.
