Cask (gravity) Newark Beer Festival,Spring 2009 and (handpull) Royal Oak Ockbrook, late Spring 2009. The recipe was tinkered with between these rates; the rough cocoa-powder nose mellowed, a hint of spicy orange lingers, some charcoal edges come to the fore. Sessionable, just.

A Mes rate: cask at the Market (no) Porter.
A rich dark mahogany colour with a great beige head. The aroma is a stunning blend of chocolate, earthy malt and some lively mandarin on top. The flavour is rich chocolate and tobacco with the fruit coming at you at 100 miles per hour in the finish. Bloody lovely all round.

Cask at Wenlock Arms. Pours black with red highlights, 2mm tan head. Aroma is sweet, chocolate, liquorice, caramel, fruits, a bit of ash.
