Coinciding with the release of his bottled range in the UK market, Doug joined the Thornbridge team to recreate a version of his Red Ale, which has recently medalled at the World Beer Cup and North American Beer Awards. The 5.9% beer is crammed with speciality malts and with a twist on the popular American Red Style, it has been hopped instead with a massive amount of oil-rich English hops including Admiral, Bramling Cross, Phoenix, Pilgrim and First Gold. “We wanted to take a great US style of beer and put a bit of a British twist on it,” says Brewery Manager, Kelly Ryan. “We don’t want people to dismiss the fantastic breadth of flavour and aroma that UK hops can give to a beer... not every beer should be about US or NZ hops. It was also amazing to work with such a stalwart of the US microbrewing industry”. Colorado Red, as the beer has been named in tribute to Doug’s brewery, will be released on Monday August 2nd at a Meet the Brewer event in the Cask and Kitchen in Pimlico, London. The beer is described as having hints of subtle toffee malt, complimented by a heady mix of dried fruit, candied peel, hop resin, rosewater and a fantastic blend of herbal UK hop notes. The bitterness is well rounded and the beer finishes with hints of citrus and roasty malt characteristics. Thornbridge’s very own UK Brewer of the Year!

Cask Handpump at the Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico 02/08/2010 Big hop aroma. Amber red coloured a little rich on the palate and strong in alcohol with a hint of dryness and bitterness in a malt finish.

Bottle. Copper with a cream head. Aroma of dried and some stewed fruit, orange and lemon peel, bread crusts, the meadow. Medium bodied, quite creamy texture. Dominated by herbal and citrus flavours with the malt and dried fruit taking too much of a back seat for me. But it is tasty. Quite bitter with some moderate roasted flavours à la old ales. Must have again - quite like it, may be a grower. Clearly very clever - its Englishness asserts itself to two different audiences at the same time.

Cask Half Pint at Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico, London in Aug 2010 - Reddish Brown in colour. Mega-Hoppy; oily resinous and herbal hops. Fruity; citrus grapefruit, dried fruit, candied peel. Malty; toffee, caramel, slightly roasty malts. Resinous citrus fruity hoppy throughout with a dry bitter finish. Enjoyed this. Lovely Beer! (2010-08)

Look: clear copper with strong creamy white head. Aroma: herbal and woody hops, toffee, caramel, light minty notes. Taste: almost dry with grassy hoppy bitterness, sligtly astringent. Flavour: tofee, spicy hops. Good.

Jado (805) - Camp Hill, AUSTRALIA - NOV 7, 2016
Pint bottle. Clear red-orange body topped with a thin white head. Aroma is light but there’s some sweet malty caramel overlaid by flowers and lemon. Taste starts off with fresh pear before an earthy hop note emerges. Some lemon and pepper toward the end. Fairly clean finish leads into a slightly sweet aftertaste.

Handpump at Craft Beer Co. Clapham, in London. Amber cloudy pour, creamy cappuccino head. Nose: incense a bit, toffee far away. Mouth: sweet (but not too sweet) caramel, roasted malts, silky body and mild bitter finish. Liked it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
