Cask at Craft Beer Co., London. Didn’t write down notes on this one, but gave it good numbers. Dark, I recall it reminding me of a stout, though sweeter. Enjoyable.

Craft Clerkenwell 2nd Birthday Bonanza! Cask. Opaque dark brown - black beer. Tidy pale tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry. Modest carbonation. Very woody start, bitter too. Turns to mellow dark malt ans a little dark fruits. Comes full circle with more woody bitterness and a dash of licorice spice. A rich beer that finishes smooth and semi dry.

Cask at the Craft Beer Clerko’s 2nd birthday bash, 29/06/13. Mid black with a good bubbly tan head - a fairly handsome beer. Nose is dark fruits, wood shavings, booze, vanilla, chocolate, light herbal/medicinal notes. Taste comprises chocolate, sugars, dark malt, big woody bite, herbal qualities, wood bark, rich cake mix. Full bodied, soft carbonation, dryish finish with a little booze. Really enjoyed this, rich, complex, woody.

Cask at CBC Clerkenwell during the Second Birthday Celebration - London. Pours deep brown with a creamy tan head. Inky iodine aroma, some old leather, dried fruits. Medium sweet flavor, very woody, some cedar, dry oak, chocolate, leathery fruits. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Dry finish with bitter cocoa and further leathery fruits. Really nice stuff overall, though not better than the sum of its parts.

Cask @ CBC Clerkenwell’s 2nd Birthday Party. Note: Craft’s menu listed the ABV at 10%, while the Thornbridge pump clip listed the beer at 9%. The pour’s deep brown with a tiny khaki head. The nose is very woody, earthy. Soft notes of berry jam, herbs. Ink. The taste is more herbs, dark spices. A bit of cherry and toffee. Roasted forest fruits covered in cocoa. Strong woody accents dominate the finish. Slighty boozy, tangy. Full body, rich. Overall, I found this a bit muddled. Others at the party loved it, so opinions were divided. Still, reasonably tasty stuff.
