Palme (4830) - Bergen, NORWAY - JAN 15, 2013
0.33l bottle from April 2011. You might as well call it a jet black one, and it has an impressive medium sized tan and lasting chocolate top. The aroma is lovely roasted with strong concentrated soy sauce, licorice, a dark sweetness that I have not nosed in god knows how long along with strong gunpowder and watered down campfire. This smells absolutely fantastic, and it seriously does not have much to go on this.. The carbonation level is average+ with a soft, thick and oily mouthfeel. Really roasty and almost burned in the taste. More of that campfire, but there is also vanilla, coconut, rich chocolate, salty licorice and more gunpowder. One helluva imp stout this! Lingering chocolate-roasty aftertaste, and the salty licorice? Oh my! Haven’t had that flavor, and so much of that flavor in my mouth since the first time I tasted Dark Reserva. It’s been a long time since I’ve tasted a beer like this. Mindblowingly tasty, and this is not far off the best imp stout I’ve ever had. 09.11.2012

Expensive bottle from Beers of Europe, King’s Lynn
Brewed April 2011, bottled December 2011, 1½ years old

Pitch black color, with medium sized brownish creamy head. The aroma is mild but nice and elegant, with dark chocolate and cocoa powder. Full bodied, with strong flavor of dark chocolate, very good, with some roasted malts; but there is also a trace of liquorice, and it’s quite salty; these two last characteristics being not so exciting; correct bitterness.
It’s indeed a very good beer, tastes like a classic brew.

Un ottima Imperial Stout. Nera con un cappello di schiuma marroncina. Aroma carico, complesso, liquoroso, cioccolatoso, e in minima parte caffettoso. L’ingresso in bocca è stupefacente... ...denso; sembra di inghiottire fango. Inizialmente sbilanciato verso il dolce (caramello) con una leggera punta acida. Emergono poi le note tostate di cioccolato e caffè. Chiude con una sfumatura di luppolo. Incredibile e complessa. Ottima.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2013 33 cl bottle.

Pours dark hazy red color with a small head. Aroma of caramel, ripe fruits, yeast and toffee. Flavor of yeast, licorice, ripe fruits and toffee. A bit salty flavor, makes it somewhat stuffy. Quite nice.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours dark brown with some sediment and an off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, dark fruits, coffee, and chocolate. Flavour is chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, and some warming alcohol.

Bottle with Dan. Pours a deep ruby-tinted black, mocha head. Aroma is great chocolate, mocha coffee, a bit of milk, ginger and a real blackcurrant cordial thing, which is odd. Taste is oddly fruity for an impy stout: all the milk chocolate and coffee you’d expect from an imperial stout, but with a fruity vinous apple/blackcurrant character. Lovely silky mouthfeel, lingering flavourful tastiness. Mmm. Oh yes. Mmm. Mmmmm.

Bottle (bottled December 2011, tasted November 2012) thanks to FaithHealer1 - oily reddish-brown pour, creamy bubbly head leaves light lacing down the glass. Surprisingly fruity nose - ginger biscuit spice, apple skins (but in a good way) slightly tart vinous fruits, dense malts. Slightly sweet, juicy body, coffee, vanilla, mocha, berries again, really unusual for a stout! Light fruity linger, something briney/salty too, long oily bittersweet finish. Lovely!

33cl bottle thanks to Nustu. Pours like a really apetitising coffee - opaque chestnut with just a hint of red - good head retention. The nose has honey and biscuit with some apple. The taste has ginger bread, liquorice and cloves. The palate has a medium to large body and structure with a nice finish. Overall, not like a typical stout/porter to me - but delicious.
