COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Vienna lagers, named after the city they were originally brewed in, has become a classic style of lager but one rarely brewed in the UK. Thornbridge’s take on the style is “Kill Your Darlings” which is reddish brown in colour with a medium body and characterized by a malty aroma and slight malt sweetness. A twist on this style has been added by late hopping with Amarillo and Tettnanger hops. After a period of cold fermentation the beer has been lagered for five weeks. “We have done the waiting so that you can enjoy the crisp fresh flavours and in our opinion this is a beer best drunk as fresh as possible” says Brewery Production Director, Rob Lovatt.

Bottle from greystones, Sheffield. Red colour with a respectable off white head. Lagery fruity aroma. Similar taste, but with an additional bite of bitterness. Typical lager palate.

June 11, 2014 - at Mondiale 2014 - bottle sample. Hazy deep amber with a smallish lasting mottled beige head. Smells like an ESB - twiggy, sweet, orange pekoe tea, mild fruit. Taste follows - more tea bitterness. Average body, low-level carbonation, a little sweet in the finish, light floral/tea bitterness in the finish - delicate, very nice.

DavyK (159) - East Kilbride, SCOTLAND - MAY 29, 2017
Bottle from Redmond’s. Wasn’t wild on this: slightly thin in the mouth, malt got overpowered by a sweetness that didn’t quite land for me. Needed more bitterness and bite.

MoritzF (10068) - Ottobrunn, GERMANY - MAY 8, 2017
(bottle) Clear, dark amber colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Toasty malty aroma with notes of caramel, shades of molasses, as if it was a diluted dark Bock, backed by delicately grassy and spicy hops. Delicately bitter and slightly sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a modest carbonation. Toasted malt character with caramel, shades of dark cacao powder and notes of spicy and slightly grassy hops towards the moderately dry bitter-sweet finish. Solid Vienna Lager. 08.VI.17

weark (857) - Morges, SWITZERLAND - JAN 29, 2017

(1861-300616)
