Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Large, beige head and deep brown colour, very nice aroma of chocolatiness from malts, from the bottle. then strong citruses from the glass. low bitterness and good balance between maltiness and hoppiness in flavour. very good beer.

circinus (294) - SWEDEN - MAY 24, 2014
Bottle 50 cl from the Internets. Black with a beige huge head. Aroma like boiling mash with newly added hops. Hops, grassy, slight citrus, very slight roast/toast, bitterness. Medium body, medium carbonation, bitter finish. Would have prefered a bit more hoppy aroma, and a bit more roast/toast in the taste.

Pretty vague arome, some coffee and some grass. Pretty black, beige head. Some malty roastiness in the taste finished of with some, but not much bitterness. Medium body average carbonation. Pretty medioker as a beer and dissapointing as a black IPA

dynamiteninja (1844) - Norfolk, ENGLAND - MAY 2, 2014
Unfiltered and unpasteurised bottle BB 6 March 2015. Pours a red tinged mahogany with a strong thick off white head. Nose is masses of pine resin, citrus, oak, alcohol, pineapple and dark cherries. Bitter, with tang asserting itself towards the finish. Unappealing alkaline/very hard water finish. Strong carbonation. Refreshing. Depths of flavour. Very impressed. I disagree with the Black IPA label however, as this lacks the black body and roasted malt character necessary: this is actually a recreation (and improvement upon) Fullers ESB.
