Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Bottle. Aroma is like a stout: roasted malt burnt barley, hop with pine needles. Taste: complex, almost buttery, burnt barley, light sweetness of caramel, noticeable hop bitterness with pine.

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2016 Pours dark brown with light head. Aroma is little bit sour, fruity, fresh caramel, light bitter burned wood. Taste is grass, light silage, small caramel candy, light burnt furniture, bread. After taste scratches the throat. Feels a little bit dead, otherwise good grassy IPA. Update 18.11.2016. From tap. Fresh taste, not dead at all. Nice bitter beer, goes well with beef.

ASPETTO: mogano molto scuro, ma limpido. Schiuma color cappuccino, pannosa, abbondante e persistente. Carbonizzazione abbastanza bassa. Veramente un capolavoro.

Cask @ Sportsman, Huddersfield. Clear brown coloured with a head. Has a mild roasted malt aroma and taste, with a strength, but not overbearing for the ale.

Dark brown to black colored, medium light beige frothy head, good lacing and lasting. Aroma is of dark malt, chocolate, bit roasted notes and strong citrus and pine resiny hops. Taste is medium sweet caramel and chocolate, some roasted malt, again strong citrus grapefruit and pine hoppy aroma, moderate+ bitterness, bit burnt notes, hoppy and roasty dry bitter finish and lasting aftertaste, dry hopped. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, resiny. As my first BIPA ever, it has a special place reserved. (bottle, Mitra Den Bosch)
