Stuu666 (13435) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 10, 2015
Bottle at Craig’s. Pours black, nose is toffee, chocolate, oak, taste is chocolate, dark fruit, sweet.

"Rich and dark with smoke, subtle peatiness and the power of the dark malts. Molasses and liquorice and chocolate goodness all wrapped up in a smooth, warming liquid. Finishes with a distinct humming bitterness carried well by the hop and malt combo." Seriously cheating (that would be the brewer’s description above) but they are nearly spot on. Strike the rich part and it’s as accurate as you can get. 7.7 (and English thin - think Sam Smith’s) isn’t exactly rich for an american imperial stout lover, but the smoke was cool and unexpected."

Alengrin (5382) - BELGIUM - SEP 2, 2014
One of the three whisky barrel aged Saint-Petersburg imperial stouts from this brewery, apparently no longer made. Stable beige head on a practically black beer. Strong aroma of bitter chocolate, aniseed, liquorice, whisky, iron, peat, coffee powder; sweet dark fruits in the mouth, some iron, deep chocolatey maltiness, slick and oily mouthfeel, strong coffee-like roasted bitterness with indeed a (subtle) whisky touch in the end.

Koelschtrinker (20419) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - JUL 31, 2013
Trocken malziger Antrunk, wenig säuerlich, zu mild. Geringe Intensität, Ähnlichkeiten zu Apfelsaft. Wenig röstig, mild, langweilig. Leicht metallischer Abgang. 11/8/9/8/11/9

At tap in Black Door. Bitter for an imperial stout. Some roasted and coffee notes but not that great. Some licorice.

Benjii (3049) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 15, 2012
In bottle, thanks Craig. Pours a very dark brown colour with a fair light tan head. Aroma is faintly vegetal with dark chocolate, raisins, blackberries and alcohol. Similar flavours with honey and nuts, Macallan whisky, chocolate and a long alcohol hum. Mild carbonation and CO2 prickle. Really complex.

BenH (3439) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 15, 2012
Bottle, thanks Craig. Black with a bubbly light tan head. Pleasant aroma if a little faint, cola and a little chocolate. Similar taste, little burnt sugar, bit smoke in the background. A tad thin perhaps, clean finish. Nice.

marcus (10232) - Sacramento, California, USA - APR 25, 2011
Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours black with a decent tan head and a chocolate aroma. There is a subtle smooth chocolate and treacle flavor with a long dry finish. An elegant surprise from Thornbridge.

375 from Charleston Beer Exchange. Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is dark malt in a whiskey way. Med bodied. Flavor is dark fruity, with something lightly fruity and refreshing. There’s some oaky astringency. It’s subtle.

mcberko (17854) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 3, 2011
375mL bottle from 2006, pours black with a tan head. Aroma of whiskey, peat and light smoke. Flavour of the same, with a bit of an iodine quality. Whiskey flavours dominate. Not sure this has aged too well.
