Imperial Russian Stout
Rich and dark with smoke, subtle peatiness and the power of the dark malts. Molasses and liquorice and chocolate goodness all wrapped up in a smooth, warming liquid. Finishes with a distinct humming bitterness carried well by the hop and malt combo.

500ml bottle for £3.49 from Peckhams (Glasgow,):
Roasted malts and a sweet, burnt sugar aroma along with some coffee and chocolate. It also seems to have some darker fruits lingering in the background and overall it is a pleasant aroma that could have used being a little stronger.
Mahogany brown colour with a few red tinges in there and a huge, three fingers tall head that is a thick looking, foamy, light brown with great retention.
A strong roasted malt presence initially but what follows is a lot sweeter than I was expecting, there is a touch of coffee along with some chocolate and sugar. The dark fruits from the nose are in the taste as well and there is some licorice complimented by some caramel; a very sweet and hoppy tasting imperial stout.
Lighter than usual for the style, falling somewhere around medium bodied with mild to medium carbonation levels. There is also more sweetness to it than your usual imperial stout.

Lighter in many ways than what I was expecting, the aroma was quite subdued but not exactly weak and the body was a lot lighter too but it was an excellent beer and one that I’d probably have again. The 7.4% alcohol content was very well hidden and goes by pretty much unnoticed.

Rhombic (136) - Elx, SPAIN - JUL 31, 2017
Pours dark brown, golden tinge, tan head. Malty caramel and noticeable hops on nose; fruity plum and peach aroma, fermented. Catastrophic burnt sugar and burnt caramel flavour. A bit dry and one-dimensional. Bad batch?

Bottle from Cambridge Wine Merchants, Cherry Hinton Road. Dark brown, slightly translucent with a ring of tan head. Aroma is of liquorice, weak coffee, plums, with a hint of cocoa beans. Salty, smoky taste with yeast extract, espresso, bitter chocolate. Very bitter finish. Nicely carbonated. Unfortunately it’s got a heavily astringent aftertaste with horehound and BlackJack chewing gum. Interesting stuff.

7.4%ABV. Stout. Pointed out dark brown instead of black. 38 SRM. Nose is sweet and fruity. Aroma of ripe dark fruity preserves and jams. Grape jelly sweet and fruity. Caramel and treacle with burnt or scorched sugar aromas. Mouthfeel is carbonated carbon. Palate has dark wheat toast, roasted barley. Hops are burnt twigs, with a clean woody bitter flavor. Overall, for me this comes across like a black IPA. Warming in the end.

Very deep black color with small brown foam. Aromas, malty of smokey and roasted cocoa and dark chocolate as well as light booze touch. Palate, full body, smooth rich creamy texture leaving lightly boozy cocoa finish. Taste, bittersweet of malts, chocolate, cocoa with noticeable warming boozy touch. Overall, not bad. Aromas could be somewhat stronger, palate is fantastic taste not bad either. Worth a try.

Thanks v&h!! Almost black cola body, tan head. Dry, a bit stale malty aroma, vague coffee. Taste... Vague sorachi, very light roast, tiny alcohol. Oof. Expected WAY more. This batch doesn’t work... Or somehow just this bottle, bb 9.3.2018. But this is meh.

2016 catch up - Bottle at home - A good strong stout. Lot’s and lots of malt flavour and a good kick of alcohol. Not many other flavours, but a good "everyday" imperial stout (if there is such a thing). Would buy again.
